Pair of Morgan Raiders make state
NEW CONCORD -Morgan’s Jordan Penrod and Alyssa Tabler will represent the Lady Raiders at next weekend’s state meet in Columbus.
Penrod placed second in the 1600 meter run at Saturday’s Division II, Region 7 meet at John Glenn High. She ran the race in 5 minutes, 17.17 seconds.
Penrod had already qualified for state in the 4×800 relay, along with teammates Jasmine Penrod, Tayler Smith and Jozi Brown. Now, she’ll compete individually as well.
She’ll be joined by Tabler, who placed third in the pole vault finals. Her best mark was 10 feet.
Jordan Penrod, after qualifying in the 1600, attempted the 3200 as well but finished 12th with a time of 12:20.58. Teammate Cheyenne Hanson was close behind at 14th (12:25.23).
Smith competed individually in the 1600 and missed out on state by just a few spots. She was seventh with a time of 5:28.94.
Other Morgan competitors who missed the cut for state Saturday were Jasmine Penrod (9th in 800, 2:24.77), Trace Schaad (13th in 3200, 10:50.89) and Colin Veyon (8th in 300 hurdles, 42.80).
Sarah Beam suffered a heart-breaking fate for the Raiders, placing fifth in the long jump at 16-2. She missed a state berth by eight inches.
The Lady Raiders finished eighth in the meet with 28 points.
In the same meet, the Warren High boys placed sixth as a team with 32 points.
The Warriors qualified discus thrower Mason Pilkey and pole vaulter Cole Wigal for state Thursday, but were unable to advance anybody Saturday.
Colton Cantley missed the cut by an inch in the high jump.
His mark of 6-0 put him in fifth place, with fourth place reaching 6-1.
Sam Goodman and Brent Ash placed sixth and ninth, respectively, in the 1600. Goodman finished in 4:31.13 while Ash came in at 4:34.40.
State competition begins at 9:30 a.m. Friday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium on the campus of Ohio State.
