Raiders advance to district title game

CAMBRIDGE – Morgan High tied a school record Friday, earning its 20th win of the season in a 68-58 Division II district semifinal victory over New Philadelphia at Gene Ford Gym.

The Raiders improved to 20-4 overall and will play Steubenville at 7 p.m. next Friday for the district championship. The game’s location is to be determined.

Dre Norman produced a career-high 24 points to lead Morgan.

Jy Mayle added 15 markers, including two dunks. Mason Edgell was also in double figures with 14 while Marcus Mayle chipped in nine.

Braden Young paced the Quakers (15-9) with 17 markers followed by Michael Karl’s 16. John Marshall tallied 13.

Morgan led only 10-8 after one quarter but outscored New Philly 41-23 in the second and third quarters to go up by 20 with eight minutes left. The Quakers rallied in the final period, but Morgan’s led never shrunk below 10 as the team from McConnelsville survived and advanced.
