Carpenter nabs another victory at Hilltop

There’s just something about a Friday night at The Legendary Hilltop Speedway that seems to agree with Parkersburg AMRA Late Model racer Tyler Carpenter.

After having his three race win streak come to an end Sunday after last Friday nights race was postponed, Carpenter picked up right where he left off as he passed his father Freddie for the lead on the 15th lap of the 25-lap main event and pulled away to his fourth win of the young season at the quarter mile dirt track.

The win was an emotional one for Carpenter and his crew as they dedicated the victory to the memory of family friend James Michael Lyons, who passed away earlier this week in a tragic accident in Parkersburg. Carpenter started third in the feature and quickly got around fast qualifier Ronnie Mayle into the runner-up position before setting his sights on his father for the top spot.

On a couple of occasions Tyler made a move to put his number 28 in front of Freddie for the lead only to see the caution flag wave.

Finally with ten laps remaining he made the pass for the lead coming out of turn number four and then easily pulled away for the win.

Mayle managed to get around “Fast Freddie” for second in the closing laps while Sunday’s winner Corey Conley placed fourth followed by Mansfied’s Matt Irey, who placed fifth in his first ever visit to Hilltop.

They AMRA Modified race was a very hotly contested battle for the other 17 cars in the field, but not for Zanesville’s Jesse Wisecarver, who sat on the pole and completely dominated the 20-lap feature for his second feature win of the season at “The Top”

While Wisecarver had the field covered from the drop of the green flag, Kenny Johnson and Jason Brookover battled door to door for second spot for the majority of the race while the battle from fourth to tenth featured some incredible side by side racing.

When the dust finally settled it would be fan favorite Johnson placing second followed by Brookover, Larry Bond and Nick Corbitt.

In other racing, young Cole Perrine claimed the victory in the AMRA Sport Mod class, while Kyle Michalo was victorious in the Street Stock Class.
