Belpre’s Racy qualifies for state
LANCASTER — Belpre’s Logan Racy became the first local track athlete to qualify for next weekend’s state meet in Columbus.
Wednesday, Racy threw 141 feet in the discus at a Division III regional meet at Fairfield Union High School. The mark was good enough for fourth place and a berth at Ohio State’s Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium, where top eight placers in each event earn All-Ohio status.
Racy, who also will compete in the shot put today, is hoping to be joined by teammate Tojzae Reams in Columbus. Reams ran the 30 hurdles preliminaries in 41 seconds, placing second to qualify for today’s finals. If he places fourth or better, he’ll join Racy at state.
Reams also competed in the 100 meter dash and 4×200 relay, but failed to qualify in either event. Other Belpre athletes who competed in Wednesday’s regionals were Karley Bell, Sydney Spencer, Hannah Deems, Trinity Daugherty, Jeremiah Weaver, Gabe Vega, Wyatt Fields and Cheyenne Barker. Spencer still has a shot at state when she competes in the 800 today.
From Waterford, Andrew Harra-Baker, Amy Lang, Bri Hart, Cierra Jarvis and Bethany Dawson competed but did not advance.
In Division I, Marietta’s Travis Moore is still alive after day one. Moore qualified for today’s finals in the 110 and 300 hurdles.
He placed fourth in the 110 (14.91) and third in the 300 (38.79). If he can repeat those finishes today, he’ll be the first state-bound Tiger since Paige Grosel in the pole vault in 2012.
Other Tigers who competed Wednesday were Torrance Nonnenmacher, Embrey Roberts, Sydney Beavers, Meadow Benton, Anna-Claire Myers, Ben Dehmlow, Collin Doughty, Nathan Matthews, Bailey Wright and Baylee Brown. Brown still has a shot to advance to state in the pole vault today.
Thursday, Warren competed in a Division II regional meet at Athens High.
Justin Lough kept his state meet aspirations alive, finishing fourth in the 300 hurdles prelims with a time of 40.78. He compete in the finals on Saturday.
Warren’s other competitors Thursday were Caroline Stollar, Jenna Walker, Sophie Knapp, Lauren Gardner, Hope Murdock, Erin Bogard, Demetria Mims, Kendrick Foreman, Cam Bartmess, Peyton Angelo, Kaleenia Quartermaine and Abigail Werry. Bowe just missed advancing in the 400, placing ninth with a time of 1:01.42 in the prelims. Bogard still has a shot at state in the pole vault.
