Local thinclads bound for state

PICKERINGTON — Travis Moore will have a chance to stand at the podium in next week’s state track meet.

The Marietta High senior placed fourth in the 300 hurdles at Friday’s DI regional meet to become the first Tiger to qualify for state since pole vaulter Paige Grosel in 2012.

Moore registered a time of 38.83 to earn a spot at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. He also competed in the 110 hurdles, putting up a time of 15.09 to place eighth.

On the girls side, Torrance Nonnenmacher was 15th in the long jump with a mark of 15 feet, 6 inches.

Baylee Brown was seventh in the pole vault and missed out on a state berth, but her mark of 11-4 tied the MHS school record, matching Grosel’s mark from the 2012 season.

Perry Massillon Regional

MASSILLON — Fort Frye’s lone representative at next week’s Ohio state track and field meet will be freshman Maddie Webb.

The Cadet pole vaulter cleared 10 feet at Friday’s Division III regional meet at Perry Massillon High School to advance. She now will compete at 1 p.m. Friday at Ohio State University.

MaryKate McElroy destroyed her own school record in the 3200 by more than 20 ticks, but her final clocking of 11 minutes and 20 seconds placed her fifth overall and only the top four finishers advanced to state.

Cadet Brady Carpenter also competed in the regional meet and finished 13th overall after clearing 5 feet, 6 inches in the high jump.

Fairfield Union Regional

LANCASTER — Belpre’s Tojzae Reams claimed regional runner-up honors in the 110 hurdles in a Division III regional meet Friday.
