Tigers, Warriors get wins on the softball diamond

Jillian Middleton fanned 11 batters over seven innings as Marietta earned a 3-1 win over Coshocton Friday.

Middleton also walked five batters, but allowed just one hit in the game to earn the victory.

Betsy Wriston, Hannah Kroft, Caitlyn Corpman and Logan Haught had the Tigers’ four hits. Kroft doubled while Corpman had an RBI. Bailey Hogue stole three bases for Marietta, which scored a run apiece in the first, fourth and sixth innings.

The Tigers are now 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the East Central Ohio League. They travel to ECOL-leading River View Monday in a conference showdown.

Warren 12, Logan 1 (5 inn.)

LOGAN — Warren exploded for eight runs in the first two innings here Friday en route to posing a 12-1, five-inning, victory versus host Logan.

Sara Greenlee, who knocked in two runs, went the distance. She pitched a four-hitter, walked one and had six strikeouts

Elisabeth Wiliams led the 5-2 Warriors at the dish by going 3 for 4 with two doubles and four runs-batted-in. Diamond Decker blasted a two-run bomb in the second and teammate Josie Yoho also collected a pair of RBIs.

The Warriors travel to Circleville for two games on Saturday. WHS faces Logan Elm at noon and the host Tigers at 4 p.m.

Frontier 5, Caldwell 3

CALDWELL –Alexis Bland threw strikes in Frontier’s 5-3 win over Caldwell Friday.

Bland struck out 10 and issued no free passes for the Cougars. Kylie Daugherty and Isabella Rinard each went 2 for 3 with a double to lead the Cougars’ bats.

For Caldwell, Gabbi Cliff went 2 for 3 with a double, Maria Blaker was was 2 for 3 with two RBIs and Morgan Parsons added a two-bagger for the Redskins.

BASEBALL

Williamstown 8, Huntington St. Joseph 4

HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — A four-run first inning jumpstarted visiting Williamstown to an 8-4 victory over St. Joseph Central Friday.

The Yellowjackets added a run in the second and three in the sixth to improve to 13-2 on the year.

Bradan Mullenix was 3 for 3 with two doubles and five RBIs for Williamstown, which visits Buffalo for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.

Ethan Tawney drove in two runs while Mason Adkins scored thrice and stole two bases.

Nate Suprano got the mound win, going the distance with a walk and no strikeouts. He scattered seven hits and four runs.

Warren 3, Logan 2

LOGAN — Logan cut Warren’s lead to one with a pair of runs in the fifth inning, but Kurt Taylor came in to pitch the final two frames and slammed the door as the Warriors won 3-2.

Taylor walked one and fanned three to get the save while starter Seth Dennis worked five innings with a walk and six strikeouts to earn the win.

Dennis also went 2 for 4 with a double at the plate while Taylor, Austin Barta and Noah Edgell all had an RBI. Thomas was 2 for 3.

Warren, which plays host to Wheeling Park for an 11 a.m. doubleheader Saturday, improved to 6-7 on the year.

Waterford 14, Federal Hocking 2

STEWART — Waterford trailed 2-0 to Federal Hocking after the first inning Friday, but the Wildcats scored 13 total runs in the second and third innings to cruise to a 14-2 victory.

Noah Huffman was 3 for 4 with a triple and three RBIs for Waterford. Zane Heiss was 2 for 4 with three RBIs, Austin Pyatt was 2 for 2 with three runs scored, Dylan Shriver was 2 for 2 with two runs and an RBI and Braden Bellville drove in a pair of runs.

Russell Young pitched three innings with six walks and three Ks to get credit for the win. Luke Teters and Bryce Hilverding both pitched an inning of relief.

Nate Dearth and Mason Brown drove in Federal Hocking’s runs.

Eastern 8, Belpre 1

Jerimiah Stitt had an RBI double for Belpre, but that was all the scoring the Golden Eagles could do in an 8-1 loss to Eastern Friday.

Stitt suffered the mound loss, lasting 2 1-3 innings. A six-run third by Eastern plagued Stitt and the Golden Eagles. Belpre dropped to 4-6 overall and will play host to Wahama for a 2 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
