Fort Frye 37, Northridge 6

NORTHRIDGE — Senior quarterback Tate Engle torched host Northridge for 239 passing yards and two touchdowns en route to a 37-6 victory for the Fort Frye Cadets.

Brian Adkins caught both of Engle’s touchdowns, one from 33 yards and the other from 31, and also ran in from 3 yards out to open the scoring in the first quarter.

Draeden Turner scored Fort Frye’s other two touchdowns on rushes of 1 and 3 yards.

Adkins finished with three catches for 71 yards and seven rushes for 40 yards. Evan Schob led the Cadets with 55 yards on six totes. Engle was 13 for 17 with one interception, while Brady Schilling was his top target with 97 yards on six catches. Tyler Fisher added 71 yards on four receptions.

The Cadets (2-1) play their home opener next Friday against rival Waterford at 7 p.m.

Waterford 41, South Gallia 6

CROWN CITY — George Pantelidis caught a 24-yard touchdown pass from Peyten Stephens early in the first quarter, and Waterford never looked back from there as the Wildcats defeated host South Gallia 41-6.

Braden Bellville, who finished with 13 carries for 72 yards, ran for a pair of touchdowns (one from a yard out and the other from 5 yards out.)

Stephens had a 1-yard rushing TD, and passing-wise finished 8 for 11 for 130 yards. Pantelidis was Waterford’s leading receiver with three catches for 67 yards. Nick Fouss added three catches for 58 yards.

Holden Dailey returned a kickoff for a touchdown while Joe Pantelidis had a touchdown on an interception to cap off the scoring for the Wildcats, who visit rival Fort Frye at 7 p.m. next Friday.

Cabell Midland 40, Parkersburg 20

PARKERSBURG — Ivan Vaughn did his thing and visiting Cabell Midland broke in the new turf at Stadium Field here Friday night by doubling host Parkersburg, 40-20, in a Mountain State Athletic Conference affair.

After falling 2 rushing yards shy of 300 a year ago in Ona versus PHS, Vaughn got to work early on Friday night.

The senior first-team all-state tailback went for 192 yards on seven totes and three TDs in just a half during the Knights’ 62-0 drubbing of St. Albans last week.

Cabell Midland, which was flagged 17 times for 179 yards and now owns seven consecutive victories against the Big Reds, will attempt to improve to 3-0 next week when rival Spring Valley invades at 7 p.m. Friday.

PHS, which got 135 ground yards on 23 rushes from Moler, will seek its first triumph starting at 7 p.m. next Friday when the Big Reds travel to Woodrow Wilson.

University 24, Parkersburg South 7

PARKERSBURG — University quarterback Logan Holgorsen did it with both his arm and his legs Friday night as the visiting Hawks downed Parkersburg South 24-7 at the Erickson All-Sports Facility.

The setback bumped the Patriots down to 1-1 on the early season, while University squared its mark at 1-1 also.

Holgorsen, son of WVU head football coach Dana Holgorsen and a Bowling Green recruit, completed 22 of 27 passes, good for 327 yards and two touchdowns, one from 71 yards out, and also rushed 12 times for 83 yards.

In the third, South reached the University 25, but no closer, only to finally score on its next possession. From its 39, Brayden Mooney aired out a 61-yard pitch to paydirt, finding Nick Yoho all alone at the Hawks’ 40 and Yoho sped into the end zone at 6:56 to slice the deficit in half at 14-7.
