Tigers fall to Ripley, 35-21

RIPLEY — Twenty-one unanswered second-half points proved to be too much to overcome for the visiting Marietta Tigers as they were defeated 35-21 Friday night by the Ripley Vikings.

Marietta held a 21-14 lead midway through the third quarter before a 79-yard pass from Cyrus Casto to Dalton Myers tied the game at 21.

A 5-yard fourth-quarter scoring run by Jeremy Harper put the Vikings in front to stay and a 9-yard scoring sprint by R.J. Evans, his second of the game, put an exclamation point on Ripley’s third win in four decisions.

The Tigers’ scoring came on a 40-yard touchdown pass from Corbin Alkire to Daniel Long and a pair of touchdown runs by Chase Taylor.

Evans finished the game with 144 yards on 25 carries for the Vikings, while Casto completed 6 of 11 pass attempts for 155 yards.

Marietta, which slipped to 2-2 on the season, were led by Taylor with 71 yards on 10 touches, while Alkire completed 16 of 29 pass attempts for 138 yards.

The Tigers return home next Friday night to host Parkersburg.

Belpre 41, Wahama 22

MASON — Jesse Collins had a career game Friday night as the visiting Belpre Golden Eagles rolled to a 41-22 victory over the Wahama White Falcons to even their season mark at 2-2.

Collins accounted for all of the Belpre six-pointers as he ran for five touchdowns in the first half alone as the Eagles carried a 34-6 lead into the intermission.

The Belpre senior capped the scoring in the final quarter when he returned an interception 40 yards for his sixth touchdown of the game.

Collins finished the night with 348 yards rushing on 18 carries, while junior Logan Adams carried the rock seven times for 65 yards.

Belpre did all of its damage on the ground, piling up 440 rushing yards, while place kicker Jordan Harrington converted on all five of his extra-point attempts.

The Eagles will host Southern next Friday night in a Tri-Valley Conference clash.

Cameron 40, Frontier 14

NEW MATAMORAS — No. 6-ranked Cameron lived up to its billing Friday night by scoring the first 40 points in the game en route to a dominating 40-14 win over the host Frontier Cougars.

Andrew Ritchea rushed for 108 yards and three touchdowns, while quarterback Aidan Lucey tossed three touchdown passes as the Dragons improved to a perfect 4-0 on the season.

Cameron got a pair of first-quarter touchdown passes from Lucey to Travis Mickey and Trent Scott to take a 14-0 lead before breaking things wide open with a 20-point second quarter.

Frontier was limited to just 25 yards rushing in the game, while allowing the Dragons to pile up 381 total yard of offense.

The Cougars scored both of their touchdowns late in the game when freshman quarterback J.D. Schmidt connected on a pair of 56-yard touchdown passes to Breckin Hoff and Kaylb McQueary.

Frontier, which fell to 1-3 on the season, will look to rebound next Friday night as it travels to Magnolia.

Morgan 48, West Muskingum 13

ZANESVILLE — Morgan senior Wes Pauley rushed for over 200 yards and a scored a school-record five rushing touchdowns in the Raider 48-13 Muskingum Valley League win at West Muskingum.

The Raiders opened the scoring when quarterback Lucas Waters scored on a 25-yard run just 51 seconds into the contest. Waters would then hook up with Colton Young for a 19 yard TD pass on fourth and 14 at 5:42 of the first.

Pauley would then score the first of his five rushing touchdowns with a 21-yard run at 4:54 of the first. Kaden Williams added the PAT after each touchdown.

Pauley tied the school-record with second-quarter scoring runs of eight (11:47), five (9:36), and 14 (3:02) yards. The Williams PAT put Morgan up 42-7 at the intermission.

At the start of the second half, the Raiders defense turned the Tornadoes over on downs deep in Morgan territory. Pauley would then break the record in dramatic fashion with a 93-yard run to cap the scoring for the Raiders. Pauley broke the record that was shared by Jason Alderman from 1991 and Bernie Anderson from 1992.

Pauley finished with 238 rushing yards on 17 carries. Waters hit on eight of ten passes for 68 yards and the one score. Young caught three balls for 24 yards.

The Raiders, who are 1-3 overall and 1-2 in the MVL, will visit the Village Park in Crooksville to battle the Ceramics on next Friday night. The Tornadoes fell to 0-4 overall and 0-3 in the league.

Parkersburg Catholic 38, Wirt County 8

ELIZABETH — Parkersburg Catholic scored 22 points in the second quarter and never looked back as it notched their fourth consecutive win with a 38-8 win over Wirt County Friday night in Elizabeth to spoil the Tigers’ homecoming.

The Crusaders got off to a bit of a slow start before a 55-yard TD run by Ty Sturm got them on the board in the second quarter.

Strurm added a 1-yard score later in the period before connecting with Jeb Boice on a 17-yard scoring strike to give the Crusdaers a three-touchdown lead.

PC added to its lead in the second half on Sturm’s third rushing touchdown of the game before a 4-yard run by Aidan Stotts in the fourth quarter capped the point-production.

Wirt County’s lone score came when Dylan Lowe connected with Tyler Evans on a passing touchdown.

Sturm tallied 232 rushing yards in the game on 22 carries, while Boice added 61 yards on 17 carries and hauled in three pass receptions for 46 yards.

Lowe finished 9 for 14 for 156 yards and two interceptions for the Tigers. His top target was Nathan Murray, who hauled in five catches for 123 yards.

Catholic will look to run its impressive season-opening streak to five next Friday night when the Crusaders travel to Gilmer County.
