Wood County Christian boys have good size

WILLIAMSTOWN — There’s no shortage of talent on the Wood County Christian boys basketball roster this season.

The Wildcats started the season 2-2 and are hoping to keep racking up wins as the season progresses. Head coach Dan Morris said the team is hoping to find an identity.

“We won the two games we should’ve won,” Morris said of the early season schedule. “We lost to Cross Lanes Christian. They’re always at the top of the state tournament. I wish we would’ve played a little better against them. We’re still trying to find our way a little bit.”

Wood County Christian will rotate about eight players in close games. So far this season, Sam Cremeans and Garrett Napier have made a big impact with the Wildcats.

In a 73-31 win over Morgantown Christian, Cremeans tallied 12 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists for a triple-double. In the same game, Napier netted a game-high 20 points.

The duo gives the Wildcats some size, as the junior Napier is a 6-5 forward and the sophomore Cremeans is a 6-4 guard.

Other key players to watch for Wood County Christian are Trey Davis, Tucker Dougherty, Ethan Thibault, Austin Simmons, Michael Cline, Cam Huck and Hadden Thibault. Max Crum, Tommy Azinger and Ryder Davis have also gotten minutes this season.

“We’re till trying to figure things out,” Morris said. “They’re coming along.”

Simmons, a 5-foot-8 guard, Ethan Thibault, a 5-10 guard, Hadden Thibault, a 5-10 guard, and Tommy Azinger, a 5-8 guard, make up Wood County Christian’s senior class.

Napier, Ryder Davis, a 6-2 forward, Trey Davis, a 5-8 guard, Dougherty, a 6-2 forward, and Huck, a 6-1 forward, make up the junior class.

Cremeans is the only sophomore on the team, while Crum, a 5-8 guard, and Cline, a 5-8 guard, are both freshmen.

Morris is assisted by Cody Gutberlet, Ron Cremeans and Jason Dougherty.
