Mid-Ohio Valley youth baseball season begins Saturday

With youth players signed up and drafted and equipment distributed and diamonds prepped, it’s time to play ball y’all.

“We’re a little up from last year as far as numbers go,” said Marietta Bantam League president Jim Brown. “We have about 230 kids out this season.

“There are also four fast-pitch girls softball teams, two 8-under, one 10-under, and one 12-under.”

This Saturday, it’s opening day for Marietta’s 10-under WMOA and 10-under Warren IGA teams of the Tri-Valley Select Baseball League.

David Miller-coached WMOA is scheduled to play at Mike Miller-coached Sterling Package (Mineral Wells, W.Va.) at 2 p.m. while Anthony Miller-coached Warren IGA is slated to visit Brad Venham-coached Peoples Bank (Warren), also at 2 p.m.

On April 27 at the Washington County Fairgrounds, the 5 to 8 year-olds will be in action on the fields for their first day of competition in the Marietta Bantam League.

Then, on May 6, the girls softball teams take the field.

Overall in the TCSBL, there are 15 10u teams with two teams from Marietta (WMOA and Warren IGA), three based in Warren (Peoples Bank, Edgell Jackson Trucking and Law Heating& Cooling), two in Belpre (Subway and Farson Street Car Wash), five out of Mineral Wells, W.Va. (Bill Wright Auto, Dawn Wellness, Goff Brothers, Jay Gerber, Sterling Packaging), and three from Worthington (Somerville Industries, Walker Machinery, and Skyline Steel).

In 8u baseball, there are eight teams with three in Warren GSCS, Neffs, and Shea Towing), three at Godbey, (Farm Fresh, Johns Auto Body, and Jr. Deputies), two from Belpre (Integrity Air and Kapple Automotive).

In 12u baseball, there are nine teams with one based in Marietta (Mallett Rentals), one in Belpre (Badger Lumber), one in Warren (WVCCU), three in Mineral Wells (Conley Lawn Maintenance, R&K Plumbing, and Top Notch), and three in Worthington (FST Images, Walker Machinery and Z-dog).

The 8u softball teams are Davita (Belpre), Teamster Horseman 41S (Godbey), Vienna Belles, Vienna Daisies, Vienna Races, Wenmoth Insurance (Mineral Wells) and Zdogs (Mineral Wells).

The 10u SB teams include Bob’s Market (Belpre), Devore Law Firm (Mineral Wells), Goldstar Lodge (Godbey), Moose Lodge (Godbey), Vienna Chicks, Vienna Diamonds, Vienna Peaches, and WVCCU.

In 12u softball, there are Dan Law Heating and Cooling (Belpre), Eckels Orthodontics (Mineral Wells), Missy’s One of a Kind (Godbey), and Vienna Blue Sox.

All the baseball and softball action this season will be played at five locations: Marietta Fields, Belpre Fields, Little Hocking Fields, Godbey Fields, and Mineral Wells Fields.
