Body found in abandoned home destroyed by West Virginia fire

ALUM CREEK, W.Va. (AP) — Authorities in West Virginia say a body has been found in an abandoned Alum Creek home that was destroyed by a fire.
Alum Creek Fire Chief James Oldaker tells news outlets that firefighters arrived at the Wednesday morning fire and found the home covered in flames and tumbling down. The cause of the fire is unclear.
He says he received a tip later that day that a person often sneaked into the abandoned home to sleep. Firefighters found the body when they returned to the home the next morning.
It’s unclear if authorities have identified the body, which was sent to the state medical examiner’s office for an autopsy. The West Virginia State Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.
