Music Tribute Series opens with Thursday show

From local reports

PARKERSBURG — The Mid-Ohio Valley Americana Music Tribute Series announces its first show of 2017 for this week.

On Thursday, the Andrea Davidson Band from Nashville will be appearing at the Artsbridge Studio at 925 Market St. in downtown Parkersburg. The show also will feature local songwriter Jacob Dunn, who will open the show at 7 p.m. with some original acoustic songs.

Davidson was raised in a musical family. “My great-grandfather on my dad’s side could pick a mean banjo and my father was a jazz drummer as well. I have a twin sister and another sister who is 17 months older. We always loved singing and dancing, and making our family watch our newest performances against their will,” Davidson said.

Davidson also was influenced by a diverse mix of young and old songwriters. “My influence came from lots of different places,” Davidson said. The wide array includes W.Va. native Bill Withers, the late Marvin Gaye, contemporary folk artists like Jack Johnson, Ryan Adams, Patti Griffin, Jewel and Sheryl Crow, classic songwriters like Bob Dylan, The Beatles and Neil Young and pop idols like Boys 2 Men, Hanson and Mariah Carey, a press release says.

One of the highlights of Davidson’s young career was being invited to tour with Robert Earl Keen. Last fall Davidson signed a deal with Warner Bros.

This performance will mark a return trip of Davidson to Parkersburg. “We are excited about her return, and really looking forward to see her performing with her band,” MOVAMTS music coordinator Jeff Fox said. “In the past, Andrea has performed as a wonderfully creative solo act. I cannot wait to see what she does with the help of a band.”

The Artsbridge Studio marks a new venue for the music series. “This organization’s mission is literally to improve the quality of life in the MOV by promoting and supporting the arts and we are excited to partner with them for this great night of music,” Fox said.

Part of the proceeds will benefit the Parkersburg office of the Children’s Home Society of W.Va. Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. There is a recommended donation of $10. Guests are allowed to bring food and beverages to responsibly enjoy at the event, Fox said; there will not be any being sold.
