2 suspects held after city chase

Marietta Police apprehended two suspects after a high-speed chase through Marietta Thursday morning.

The adult suspect, Christopher William Shackelford, 18, of 206 W. Fifth St., Williams-town, was processed into the Washington County Jail and the 16-year-old suspect was taken to the Washington County Juvenile Center.

Shackelford faces the following charges:

≤ Receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

≤ Obstructing official business.

≤ Contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

≤ Receiving stolen property.

The juvenile faces the following charges:

≤ Felony fleeing and eluding.

≤ Felony receiving a stolen motor vehicle.

Patrolman Jared Richards spotted a previously reported stolen vehicle Thursday morning on the 100 block of Third Street and when he attempted to stop the vehicle the juvenile driver took off at a high speed.

Capt. Aaron Nedeff explained that the driver led law enforcement through downtown Marietta, over the Putnam Bridge and headed north on Gilman Avenue before attempting to hide in the parking lot of Washington County Job and Family Services.

But when law enforcement spotted the vehicle in the lot the driver again sped off, jumping a curb and striking a sign and fence.

Both suspects then reportedly took off on foot and hid amid buildings on Gilman before being found by law enforcement.
