Belpre coach set for trial on Sept. 9

PARKERSBURG — A September trial date has been set for a Belpre High School assistant soccer coach after he was arraigned in Wood County Circuit Court Thursday.

Last week, Trent Jacob Stanley, 23, of 702 Crooks Ave., Ravens-wood, was indicted by the May grand jury on seven counts of third-degree sexual assault and eight counts of sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust.

He entered a plea of not guilty and his trial was set for Sept. 9 before Judge Jason Wharton.

According to a criminal complaint filed in Wood County Magistrate Court, between October and December, Stanley allegedly transported a female under the age of 16 from Belpre to his apartment on Red Hill Road in Parkersburg to have sex on multiple occasions. Belpre City Schools officials said Stanley has been suspended. In addition to being an assistant soccer coach, he was also volunteer boys basketball coach.
