Whipple man charged in overdose death of woman

On October 8, 2019 Marietta Police Detectives located and charged Darin Michael Craig, 24, LKA 615 Dalzell Rd. Whipple, OH with Involuntary Manslaughter in the case of an overdose death of Samantha D. Seevers, 24. Seevers was found dead, still holding a syringe, behind the Speedway gas station at 100 N. 7th St. on the morning of September 17, 2019.

During the investigation officers searched the phone of a person in an unrelated case and found messages between that person and Craig. In these messages Craig indicated he played a role in providing the drugs that killed Seevers.

Officers initially interviewed Craig who admitted that he had been a go between for a dealer and Seevers. Further investigation, including the search of Seevers phone records and text messages, told a different story. Seevers, in fact, arranged to meet with Craig to buy $40 worth of heroin, but had plotted with another person to steal the drugs from Craig. Also found was a message sent from Craig to Seevers that confirmed this had taken place.

The Washington County Coroner determined Seever’s cause of death was from fentanyl overdose. On October 3rd BCI labs confirmed the drugs found in a syringe with Seevers’s body contained fentanyl.

The elements of involuntarily manslaughter is causing the death of another as a result of committing or attempting to commit a felony (in this case Trafficking Drugs).
