Grand Central Mall set to reopen

VIENNA — The Grand Central Mall will reopen today with the hours of 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday, the mall announced on Thursday.

In a press release, the mall said planned reopening dates for individual tenants may vary, so guests are encouraged to call ahead and to follow along on Facebook and Instagram for the most up-to-date information.

“We are inspired by the resilience of our community and look forward to safely welcoming back our guests,” said Jody Hopkins, general manager at Grand Central Mall. “We will continue to work with local, state and federal agencies to do all we can in order to contribute to the containment, treatment and prevention of COVID-19.”

Mayor Randy Rapp was enthusiastic.

“We are happy to be getting back to some sort of normalcy, and are cautiously optimistic about the mall opening,” Rapp said. “I encourage everyone to be very careful and use social distancing. It’s great to see the main hub of our retail community come back online. We just need to take it slow and steady, and hopefully things will get back to where they need to be.”

Also enthusiastic was Jill Parsons, president and CEO of the Mid-Ohio Valley Chamber of Commerce.

“The Grand Central Mall is a wonderful partner with the MOV Chamber and the entire community,” Parsons aid. “When the stay-at-home order went into place, the mall leadership began exploring other ways to support the community, such as the United Way food drive and Red Cross blood drive. The reopened mall will be very different experience for patrons than how we previously shopped at the mall. I encourage everyone to be patient and to follow the guidelines set by the mall leadership and individual stores so that we can support these businesses again.”

In the continued need to address COVID-19, the Grand Central Mall has proactively implemented additions to the Code of Conduct, effective immediately and until further notice, the mall said. Additions include the following guidelines:

• Practice social distancing and stay at least 6 feet from other people.

• Covering your mouth and nose with a cloth face cover is recommended.

• Do not gather in groups.

• Adhere to each individual tenant’s COVID-19 policies.

• Adhere to all federal, state and local regulations, recommendations and mandates regarding COVID-19.

The Code of Conduct is posted on the property and available online.

In addition, Grand Central Mall’s already rigorous disinfectant and cleaning practices will continue, many times per day, including periodically disinfecting areas most susceptible to the spread of germs, said officials in the release.

Alcohol-based hand sanitizer dispensers are located in highly-trafficked areas and walkways for public use. Management is meeting with housekeeping on a daily basis and monitoring alcohol-based hand sanitizing product supply to help ensure all units are stocked.

As a way to show to its support for the community, Grand Central Mall will offer a free Chick-fil-A meal to the 100 first responders and medical staff from 11 a.m. to noon today. The mall has also been collecting nonperishable goods for donation to United Way’s Hunger Solutions Program outside of Entrance B (mall entrance located between JCPenney and Belk).
