Next Sweet Corn Fest to be 2021

From staff reports

The 13th Annual Marietta Sweet Corn Festival has been postponed from July 2020 to July 2021.

The Sweet Corn Festival Committee met via Zoom on Monday and unanimously supported the postponement of the festival until July 16 and 17, 2021.

The Sweet Corn Festival will recognize Grace Brookover and Elizabeth Burdiss with $1,000 checks, despite the postponement of the festival. Brookover is graduating from Marietta High School and will be attending Ohio University, enrolling in the Animal Science/Pre-Veterinary program. Brookover displayed leadership and service in 4-H, FFA and athletics. Burdiss is graduating from Warren High School and will be attending Marietta College, enrolling in the Environmental Science program. Burdiss displayed outstanding leadership and service in 4-H, the Junior Fair Board and athletics.

“The Marietta Sweet Corn Festival is grateful for the support that our community, volunteers and Witten’s Farm Market has given in the past twelve years,” the organization said in a news release. “Sadly, we postpone this year’s event but have high hopes to continue offering the free, family centered event in 2021. Celebrating the local tradition of excellent agriculture and encouraging education in agriculture and related fields is our goal.”
