Fire causes boat to sink

Photo submitted The Marietta Fire Department responded around 1:30 p.m. Tuesday to a boat fire on the Muskingum River near the Indian Acres boat ramp. Chief C.W. Durham said two engines and the fire boat were called out when a 16- to 18-foot pleasure craft caught fire for an unknown reason. The boat was in the process of entering the Muskingum River when it caught fire. One person was on board and jumped off and swam to the dock. There were no injuries. Due to damage to the boat, when the fire department tried to bring it ashore, it went under, Durham said.
