Wood BOE to get re-entry update

PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Board of Education will meet in regular session 6 p.m. Tuesday at the district office to receive an update on a fall re-entry plan and online programs.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, residents are asked to virtually attend through the Zoom meetings app. A full agenda and link to the meeting can be found on the Wood County Schools website at www.woodcountyschoolswv.com under Menu: Policies: Meetings.

In addition to personnel changes and financial matters, Superintendent Will Hosaflook will talk about work on a fall re-entry plan for Wood County Schools. A plan was to be made public Tuesday, but officials have delayed the release after receiving reopening guidance from the West Virginia Department of Education and Gov. Jim Justice moving the opening date for schools to Sept. 8.

Hosaflook said the re-entry plan must be updated to include all new requirements from the state. The district’s calendar for the 2020-21 also will need to be revised to adjust for the later start date, Hosaflook said.

The superintendent also plans to present information on the district’s virtual school. Though the school system is looking at in-person classes for the fall semester, the district’s summer school has been held online and officials have been working to create a more robust online education program.
