Wallace sentenced for role in storage unit thefts
Saying little in her own defense, a Marietta woman was sentenced to three years of community control for breaking and entering and grand theft.
Kaylan R. Wallace, 29, of 1025 Sandhill Road Lot 22, was arrested in May after she and several others broke into two storage units at the 676 Mini Storage in Warren Township.
She pleaded guilty Monday morning to one count of breaking and entering, a fifth-degree felony, and grand theft, a fourth-degree felony.
According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, household appliances, furniture, electronics, clothing, other personal property and family heirlooms totaling approximately $30,000 were identified as missing.
A search warrant was issued on several houses for the missing items and Wallace was found hiding. She reportedly admitted to the police that she helped take the items.
Washington County Assistant Prosecutor Joe Derkin said Wallace had shown remorse and the state would not object to the community control.
Her attorney, Matthew Mollica, said she would be seeking treatment as part of the plea agreement.
“She is dealing with issues in the present and past,” he said. There is a 60-day window for a bed to be open at the treatment facility.
Wallace’s only statement was that she was sorry for what she had done.
Washington County Common Pleas Judge John Haliday said restitution would be resolved at a later date.
“I advise you if you violate the sanctions, I may impose a longer time, more restrictions or a prison term of up to 30 months,” he said.
He said she is being given another chance, which he hopes she takes advantage of.
“I hope to not see you back here,” Halliday added.
