Belpre to talk electric aggregation
BELPRE — A pair of public meetings regarding electric aggregation will be held prior to the next Belpre City Council meeting in September.
During Monday night’s council meeting, held by Zoom, it was announced that Southeast Ohio Public Energy Council would hold a pair of public meetings, at 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., prior to the regular 7:30 p.m. council meeting on Sept. 28.
SOPEC is taking over the aggregation program and a representative will be present to provide information and answer question, Mayor Mike Lorentz said. Letters will be sent out to current members and there will also be information on FaceBook and in the local newspaper prior to those meetings, he said.
In other business, council approved the final reading of a resolution setting the amounts and rates for the tax levies and sending that information to the county auditor’s office.
Council also approved the transfer of $150,000 between two line items in the sewer department budget. The money was taken from a line item intended for a dump truck which was not purchased to cover a lift station repair project.
Council voted to approve the safety service director to begin discussions with a cell service provider to study the feasibility of installing an antenna on the city’s water tower. The approval was for the feasibility study only and further action will be required by council to approve such a project if it is determined to be feasible.
A bid opening will be held Sept. 22 for repair work on a slip on Drag Strip Road.
Lorentz told council the Belpre Tree Commission has decided to cancel a proposed wetland project in Civitan Park over concerns and confusion expressed about the project and its goals. The commission will be returning EPA grant funding which had been approved for the project, he said.
