Meetings

The Washington County Family & Children First Council Meeting will be held virtually today at 1:30 p.m. Those wishing to participate virtually are asked to contact Cindy Davis at fcfc@suddenlinkmail.com or call 740-376-7081.

The Washington State Community College Board of Trustees will hold its monthly meeting Sept. 21 at 4 p.m. in the Community Room of the main building.

The date and location of the September regular meeting of the Fort Frye Local School District Board of Education has been changed to Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. at Salem Liberty Elementary School, 10930 State Route 821, Lower Salem.

Events

Mary’s House will host a baked steak benefit dinner Sept. 18 from 4:30-7 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church, 257 East Bell Ave., McConnelsville. Meals will include baked steak, mashed potatoes and gravy, homemade noodles, green beans and a roll. Tickets are $12 per person and social distancing will be observed. To order ahead or for curbside carry-out, call 740-336-1523. Proceeds benefit Mary’s House.

The Parkersburg Paddlefest Weekend, a three-day festival dedicated to people-powered watercraft, originally scheduled for Sept. 18-20, has been canceled. The Riverfest Sternwheel Festival scheduled for the 18th and 19th at Point Park has also been canceled.

The Lutheran Women’s Missionary Society (LWMS) of the Crown of Life Evangelical Lutheran Church will hold a Rummage Sale Sept.19 from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Items include housewares, furniture, young children’s clothing and misc. items. The sale will be both inside and outside at the church at 300 Wooster St. at the intersection with Third Street in Marietta. All proceeds benefit missionaries of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod (WELS). Wearing of masks is encouraged. Social distancing will be followed. Hand sanitizer will be available.

The 2020 Annual Lawrence (Pete) and Olive Willey family reunion originally scheduled for Sept. 20 at the Lower Salem Community Hall has been canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The reunion has been rescheduled for Sept. 19, 2021 at the same location.

The Castle, in partnership with The Cook’s Shop, will present “Kleindeutschland Marietta,” a virtual Food History Cooking Class Sept. 21 from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The class will be conducted via Zoom meeting. Registration is $8 per attendee; pre-registration required. The Sternwheel Festival 5K originally scheduled for Sept. 26 is canceled. The event has been rescheduled for May 29, 2021.

The VFW 6387 and 5108 and Matamoras Elementary School 30th Annual POW MIA Recognition Day Program has been canceled due to COVID-19.

• The annual Young Engineers and Scientists Days (YES Days) originally scheduled for October at Washington State Community College for 800 area seventh grade students has been postponed. The event will resume when it is safe to do so.

• The Salem Township Volunteer Fire Department has canceled the Reverse Drawing Fundraiser for October 2020 due to COVID-19.

• Marietta Friends of the Library will host a used paperback sale Oct. 3 from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. outdoors at the library annex, 615 Fifth St., Marietta. Only paperbacks will be available. Price for trade paperbacks is 75¢ each, regular paperbacks will be offered at 75¢ each or three for $1. Rain date will be Oct. 10.

• The Little Muskingum Vol. Fire Dept. will hold a takeout only fish fry Oct. 4 at noon at the firehouse. All dinners will cost $10 each.

• The Little Muskingum Watershed Association Annual Fall Tour originally scheduled for Oct. 10-11 has been canceled due to COVID-19.

• Greenbrier United Methodist Church’s Annual Homecoming originally scheduled for Oct. 18 has been rescheduled for Oct. 17, 2021.

• The Pioneer Ladies Civitan Club has canceled the Style Show originally scheduled for Oct. 20 due to the current conditions. The next Style Show will be held Oct. 19, 2021.

• The Zonta Club of the Mid-Ohio Valley has canceled its Fall Unique Boutique Clothing Sale originally scheduled for November due to Coronavirus concerns. All clothing donations can be made at the Spring Sale in 2021. Those who would like to make a monetary donation to the club to help with service projects can mail checks to: Zonta Club of MOV P.O. Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars

• Blennerhassett Island Historical State Park will host Yoga Under the Trees, a class to increase flexibility and build strength while enjoying nature. Classes will be held Sunday and Sept. 27 from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Participants will need to catch the 1 p.m. boat to Blennerhassett Island from Point Park to be able to attend the class. Boat ride cost is $12. Class is beginner friendly and will be held in the Walnut Grove. Attendees are asked to bring a yoga mat, water, and any supplies needed.

• Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Lunch and Learn Sept. 24 from noon-1 p.m. at the Chamber office, 713 Park Drive. Topic is “Coolsculpting – Eliminating those hard to lose fatty areas” with Dr. Jeff Patey, owner and founder of Quality Care Associates Urgent Care and Wellness Center. Limited seating. Miscellaneous

• Ferncliff Drive will be closed on the upper end to all traffic beginning today through Sept. 17 from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. each day due to the township replacing culverts, weather permitting.

• The Washington County Career Center program year’s policy for free/reduced lunch for students unable to pay the full price of meals or milk served under the National School Lunch and School Breakfast is available at the high school office. For more information, call 740-373-2766 x 4012.

• Marietta Area Recycling Center is now open. New hours are Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Access to the site will be closed off for drop off of recyclables during closed hours. For the COVID-19 protocol and more information, call 740-373-3372 or visit the Facebook page.

• Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ohio Department of Health orders, the following Washington County Offices located at 205 Putnam Street will apply restricted hours of operation until further notice: Common Pleas Court, General and Juvenile/Probate Divisions, Clerk of Courts, Recorder, Treasurer, Auditor and Tax Map, Prosecutor, and Child Support, 8 a.m.-2 p.m.; Sheriff – Civil Division – Courthouse Annex, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. with checks conducted from 9 a.m.-3:30 p.m. by appointment only; Adult Parole Authority, Law Library, and Building Department are closed to the general public.
