Commission talks court upgrades

Playground equipment and common pleas court upgrades were discussed at Thursday morning’s Washington County Commission meeting.

As part of a 2019 Community Development Block Grant, Marietta Township was awarded $21,500.

“It’s for playground equipment for the community center in Reno,” said Commissioner David White.

Bids were submitted and the winning bid went to KorKat Playgrounds of Carrollton, Ga., for $33,984. It will include a bubble-shaped storm climber, infant bucket swings, two basketball pads and rims, and playground-safe mulch.

White said above and beyond the grant, it was up to the township to raise the money.

Commissioners signed the contract to begin work, which is stipulated to be done by Jan. 31.

In other commission news:

¯ A resolution for a sewer rate increase to $73 was signed by the commissioners.

“It went into effect in July,” White said. “We didn’t have the resolution on record.”

¯ Angie Stevens, Washington County Common Pleas Court administrator, requested appropriation for COVID emergency relief funds for $56,000. She provided quotes for materials and equipment in the amount of $5,790.40, with the remainder to be available for a “sound quote for the courtrooms to improve the sound quality to efficiently conduct hearings virtually.”

In her request letter, Stevens said they are in the process of obtaining the quote.

Funds for equipment included $3,189 for multiple document scanners, $1,441 to Murray’s Glass for quarter-inch clear tempered glass in an aluminum frame, and $1,160 for an LCD projector.
