Boley re-elected as W.Va. Senator

PARKERSBURG — District 3 Republican incumbent Sen. Donna Boley was re-elected to the West Virginia Senate Tuesday night, defeating challengers Robert “Robin” Wilson, Democrat, and Travis Shultz, Libertarian, according to the unofficial election results from Tuesday’s general election.

Boley received 29,630 votes (66.29 percent) compared to Wilson’s 11,706 (26.19 percent) and Shultz’s 3363 (7.52 percent).

With the win, Boley will be entering her 10th term that started in 1985 and will join Sen. Michael Azinger, Republican, representing District 3 in the Senate.

“I’ve had a lot of support from this district, I have won in all four counties that are in my district. I think what I do is just try to serve people and if they have a problem, I tried to figure it out or call someone that can help them,” Boley said. “I feel good if I can help them solve that problem in Charleston if that’s where the problem is.”

Boley won Wood County by 67.94 percent or 25,022 votes to Wilson’s 9,580 and Shultz’s 2,229. In other counties, results from Pleasants County had Boley with 1,514 (46.13 percent) votes compared to Shultz 960 (29.25 percent) and Wilson’s 808 (24.62 percent).

In Wirt County, Boley received 1,831 (72.80 percent), Wilson received 586 (23.30 percent) and Shultz received 98 votes (3.90 percent). In Roane County, Boley received 1,263 (60.99 percent), Wilson received 732 (35.35 percent) and Shultz received 76 (3.67 percent) votes.

With the win, Boley is hopeful that she will meet in person for Senate meetings in 2021.

“They are trying to figure out if the virus will be there when we are supposed to be back in February. I read from one of our leaders that the only thing we really had to do was to do a budget, and with some on finance that we’d have to go in and meet,” Boley said. “We will just have to wait and see.”
