¯ The location of the regular November meeting of the Fort Frye Board of Education scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday has been changed to Fort Frye High School, 420 5th St., Beverly. A Finance Committee meeting will also be held 4:30 p.m. Thursday in the same location.

¯ A Policy Committee meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Dec. 3 at Beverly Center Elementary School, 510 5th St., Beverly.

¯ The board of the Frontier Local Economic Development Association canceled all 2020 regular meetings and the annual meeting due to the pandemic. A schedule for 2021 will be announced in January 2021.


¯ Warren Band will hold a Mattress Fundraiser from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Every mattress purchase benefits the band and includes free sheets. Available brands include Beautyrest and many sizes will be available at a discounted price. All forms of payment accepted. For more information, text “Warren20” to 797979.

¯ Lowell American Legion will host a steak fry Saturday. Phone orders begin at 4 p.m. by calling 740-896-3326. Serving from 5-8 p.m.; seating is limited. Carry-out requested. Meals include steak, baked steak, chicken or no meat, and salad with dressing, a baked potato, and a roll. Signs will be posted for pick-up.

¯ The Castle will present a short history of Victorian Christmas decor 7-8 p.m. Nov. 24. This virtual program will highlight the history of a selection of The Castle’s Victorian Christmas decorations. This virtual event is free. Donations are encouraged.

¯ Dally Memorial Library will raffle off a red and white embroidery hummingbird quilt 3 p.m. Nov. 25. The quilt was made by Dale Ruble and is on display at the Citizens National Bank in Sardis. Tickets are 1 for $1 or 6 for $5 and can be purchased at Dally Memorial Library or Citizens National Bank – Sardis. All proceeds benefit Dally Memorial Library.

¯ Norwood United Methodist Church will hold its Annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 26. This meal is take-out only. Attendees are asked to wear a mask and social distance. Delivery available; contactless delivery may be requested. Walk-ups welcome at noon and vehicles must enter the alley from Vine Street. ¯ Dale UM Church has canceled its Annual November Turkey/Ham Dinner due to COVID-19. Donations are appreciated. The Annual Chicken/Ham Dinner is scheduled for spring 2021.

¯ The Zonta Club of the Mid-Ohio Valley has canceled its Fall Unique Boutique Clothing Sale originally scheduled for November due to Coronavirus concerns. ¯ The O’Neill Center virtual craft show originally scheduled for Dec. 5 has been canceled due to lack of participation. Contact the center if you paid and registered. The quarter auction is being planned for April and donors for prizes are needed. For more information, call 740-373-3914.

¯ Dally Memorial Library will raffle off a 10″ Star Wars The Mandalorian Baby Yoda Dec. 15 at 5 p.m. It is on display at the Citizens National Bank in Sardis. Tickets are 1 for $1 or 6 for $5 and can be purchased at Dally Memorial Library or the Citizens National Bank – Sardis. All proceeds benefit Dally Memorial Library.

¯ The Castle will hold a virtual solstice sunset watch at Sacra Via Park 4:45 to 5:15 p.m. Dec. 21 During this program, Wes Clarke will discuss the astronomical alignments of Marietta’s mound structures. This virtual event is free. Donations are encouraged.

¯ The Salem Twp. Vol. Fire Dept. is selling tickets as a fundraiser for the following: Browning Primal 23 Gun Safe, 110 Storm 6.5 Creed (red, white, and blue edition), Ruger American 350 Ldg, Glock 19 Gen 5 American edition, Remington 870 express 20 ga/26“, Mossberg 930 3” 12 ga/28″, and a $250 gift card. Must be 21 years of age or older to purchase and must pass a background check. Drawing is Dec. 31 or until all 500 tickets are sold. To purchase, contact any Salem Fire Dept. member.


¯ The Castle will host a virtual Christmas Pudding Cooking Class from 7-8 p.m. Dec. 1. Walk through the steps of making a traditional steamed Christmas pudding and learn the history behind this bygone holiday tradition. Cost of registration is $5.

¯ The Castle will host a Crafting Historical Holiday Ornaments Workshop 7-8 p.m. Dec. 9 via an interactive Zoom meeting.

This virtual workshop is free. Donations are encouraged.

¯ The Castle will virtually present a Victorian Holiday Punch Class from 7-8 p.m. Dec. 16. Brian Cushing of Historic Locust Grove in Kentucky will show how to create this cocktail from home while sharing the background behind historical holiday punches. Encouraged audience age 21 and older. This class is free. Donations are encouraged.


¯ Washington County Auditor Matthew Livengood has begun the process of a state mandated reappraisal of all properties. There will be appraisers visiting properties throughout the county through the end of 2021. New values resulting from the reappraisal will go into effect Jan. 1, 2023, and will be payable on the 2024 tax bills. ¯ A bridge deck repair project will begin Dec. 7 on the on-ramp bridge between OH-7 South and U.S. Route 50 (inside the City of Belpre). The ramp will be closed. ODOT’s detour is OH-7 to SR-618 to U.S. Route 50. Estimated date of completion is Dec. 18.
