WILLIAMSTOWN — Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley dedicated their 106th house in Wood and Washington Counties Saturday. The house, located in Williamstown, has been dedicated to the Davis family.

“I am a single mom of two, and I am so grateful to have a home that I can call ours and pass on one day,” said homeowner Jennifer Davis. “Everyone we have worked with and met have been so helpful, kind and understanding; it has been a wonderful experience.”

Davis has put in over 200 hours of volunteer work with Habitat for Humanity.

Habitat for Humanity is a Christian ministry, which helps lower income homebuyers to build and purchase decent, affordable homes.

Homebuyers work alongside community volunteers in the construction of their house. Habitat partners with homebuyers who must provide sweat equity hours, take homeowner education courses, and meet all requirements of homeownership.

Once the house is completed, homebuyers pay a manageable mortgage payment, with no interest on their loan.

“It is always exciting to work with the homebuyers and community,” said Alvin Phillips, Executive director of Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley.

Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley will be groundbreaking on two homes this week, one in Marietta and the other in Belpre.

According to Phillips, they would not be able to help the community without community support.

The Davis’s home was built with funds from Give Local MOV 2019 funds, City housing funds, and a major donation from Bob and Shirley Showalter.

Bob Showalter is a Williamstown native, and the area means a lot to him, according to Phillips.

The donation was made in memory of Bob Showalter’s parents.
