Riverview donates finance curriculum

Several school districts in the Mid-Ohio Valley are the beneficiaries of a donation by Riverview Credit Union, headquartered in Belpre. This year marks the third consecutive year that Riverview has teamed up with Ramsey Solutions to support financial literacy and provide local schools with free access to the Foundations in Personal Finance curriculum developed by Dave Ramsey, a nationally syndicated radio host, author and personal finance expert. This financial education program teaches students valuable skills to prepare them for a life of financial freedom. The schools receiving this curriculum for the 2020-2021 school year include:

In Washington County:

¯ Belpre High School

¯ Frontier High School

¯ Marietta High School

¯ Waterford High School

¯ Belpre Middle School

¯ Marietta Middle School

¯ Warren Middle School

“Like credit unions nationwide, promoting financial literacy is a core element of our mission,” said Doug Ankrom, Riverview’s President and CEO. “We recognize the importance of learning financial responsibility at a young age as it is crucial to making smarter financial decisions as an adult. Our ongoing contribution of the Dave Ramsey curriculum to our local schools will enable them to have the resources necessary to teach over 1,000 students the financial habits and skills that lead to greater financial well-being.”

Dave Ramsey created Foundations in Personal Finance, an easy to use, turn-key school curriculum that teaches students the value of saving, spending and giving to guide them down the path of financial literacy.

This curriculum is more than just students reading a textbook and taking tests, it’s a course in real-life skills. Throughout the course, teachers challenge students to set goals, like saving $500, applying for college grants and scholarships, and writing their personal resume.
