Meetings

¯ The Southeastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District Board of Directors has scheduled its next meeting for noon Dec. 21 at Lori’s Family Restaurant, 17020 McConnelsville Road, Caldwell. https://www.restaurantji.com/oh/caldwell/loris-family-restaurant-llc-/

¯ Ludlow Township will hold a regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 30. Budget and appropriations set. Organizational meeting 2021 to immediately follow.

Events

¯ The Tunnel-Warren Chapel United Methodist Church will provide free community meals from 5-6 p.m. Thursday. The menu will include pork chops, a baked potato, baked beans, applesauce, a dinner roll, dessert, and bottled water. A small Christmas gift will be given with each meal. Meals will be served as drive-through pick-ups in the lower parking lot; remain in your car. To reserve a meal, call or text Amy at 740-516-0847 or respond to Tunnel UMC’s Facebook post. Tunnel UMC is located on Ohio 550 at Coffman Road.

¯ Beverly American Legion Post 389 on 5th Street will host an all-you-can-eat fish fry from 5-7 p.m. Friday. The menu includes fries and coleslaw for $9. Music to follow by Sam Clark from 7-10 p.m. Public welcome.

¯ The youth of Tunnel United Methodist Church will present their 7th Annual Live Nativity from 6-7 p.m. Saturday. The event is outdoors; guests will remain in their vehicles and stop at scenes in the church parking lot. It is free and open to the public; donations not accepted. Tunnel UMC is located five miles west of Marietta at OH 550 and Coffman Road (behind Warren Volunteer Fire Department). COVID-19 guidelines will be followed. ¯ River Cities Symphony will present classical Christmas songs at 3 p.m. Sunday via Facebook Live. The event will include performances by soprano Tiffany CasaSante and pianist Jane Irvine. This is a free virtual event. To join, visit facebook.com/rivercitiessymphony.

¯ Belpre Rotary Club and Belpre Area Veterans will observe Wreaths Across America 10 a.m. Dec. 19 at Cedarville Cemetery off Cross Street on Cemetery Drive in Belpre. Participants will honor and place wreaths on graves of the 18 Revolutionary War soldiers buried at the cemetery. The public is invited.

¯ The Castle will hold a virtual solstice sunset watch at Sacra Via Park 4:15-5 p.m. Dec. 21. During this program, Wes Clarke will discuss the astronomical alignments of Marietta’s mound structures. This virtual event is free. Donations are encouraged.

Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars

¯ The Castle will host a Crafting Historical Holiday Ornaments Workshop 7-8 p.m. today via an interactive Zoom meeting. This virtual workshop is free. Donations are encouraged.

¯ The Castle will virtually present a Victorian Holiday Punch Class from 7-8 p.m. Dec. 16. Brian Cushing of Historic Locust Grove in Kentucky will show how to create this cocktail from home while sharing the background behind historical holiday punches. Encouraged audience age 21 and older. This class is free. Donations are encouraged.

Miscellaneous

¯ Orders for delivery or pick-up of free meals Christmas Day are now being accepted at First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. There will not be a dine-in Feast. To order, call 740-371-4587 and provide your name, phone number, and number of meals requested. For delivery, provide a complete address. Orders will also be accepted through Facebook.

¯ The Income Tax and Treasurer’s office is currently closed to the public until further notice. A drop box is located in front of the building. All taxpayers with a prearranged agreement should call the office at 740-373-4032 between the hours of 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. for further assistance or with any questions.

¯ A bridge deck repair project will begin Monday on the on-ramp bridge between Ohio 7 South and U.S. Route 50 (inside the City of Belpre). The ramp will be closed. ODOT’s detour is Ohio 7 to Ohio 618 to U.S. Route 50. Estimated date of completion is Dec. 18.

¯ Barlow Presbyterian Church now has homemade mincemeat for sale. Prices are $10 per quart and $5 per pint. To purchase, call 740-350-0274.
