Meetings

¯ The Southeastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District Board of Directors has scheduled its next meeting for noon today at Lori’s Family Restaurant, 17020 McConnelsville Road, Caldwell.

¯ The Washington State Community College Board of Trustees will hold its monthly meeting at 4 p.m. today in the Community Room of the Main Building.

¯ The Board of Directors for the Southeastern Ohio Port Authority will meet at 4 p.m. Wednesday. This meeting is open via conference call or in-person attendance in the Oak Room, Building 1 in Broughton Complex #1, located at 639 SR 821, Marietta. ¯ Barlow Township will hold its year-end meeting at 9 a.m. Dec. 28. The 2021 reorganizational meeting will follow immediately.

¯ Palmer Township will hold its year-end meeting at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 28. The January meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Jan. 11, 2021.

¯ Salem Township will hold its year-end meeting at 7 p.m. Dec. 29 with the 2021 reorganizational meeting taking place right after. There will be no January meeting.

¯ Ludlow Township will hold a regular meeting at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 30. Budget and appropriations set. Organizational meeting 2021 to immediately follow.

¯ Watertown Township will hold a special meeting at 8 a.m. Dec. 31 at the Watertown Township VFD to conduct the year end business. The 2021 Organizational meeting will immediately follow.

Events

¯ Acclaimed local pianist Jan Kaneff Randolph will perform classic holiday music from the grand parlor of The Castle and a special rendition of Silent Night at First Congregational Church Wednesday. The virtual performance is free with donations encouraged and can be viewed at mariettacastle.org/virtual-history-central.

Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars

¯ The Castle will hold a virtual solstice sunset watch at Sacra Via Park 4:15-5 p.m. today. During this program, Wes Clarke will discuss the astronomical alignments of Marietta’s mound structures. This virtual event is free. Donations are encouraged.

Miscellaneous

¯ The Castle Historic House Museum gift shop will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday. The Castle will close for the season on Christmas Eve.

¯ The Income Tax and Treasurer’s office is currently closed to the public until further notice. A drop box is located in front of the building. All taxpayers with a prearranged agreement should call the office at 740-373-4032 between the hours of 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. for further assistance or with any questions.

¯ Washington County Auditor Matthew Livengood has begun the process of a state-mandated reappraisal of all properties. There will be appraisers visiting properties throughout the county through the end of 2021. New values resulting from the reappraisal will go into effect Jan. 1, 2023, and will be payable on the 2024 tax bills.
