Contour Airlines extends contract

WILLIAMSTOWN –Contour Airlines extended its contract with the Mid-Ohio Valley Regional Airport for another four years, manager Glen Kelly reported Monday.

During the Wood County Airport Authority meeting, Kelly discussed the airline update and went over the mechanics of billing.

“My big goal is to keep the airline in here and running,” he said.

Other airport topics discussed were the completion of projects, the approval of a grant, the renewal of a military fuel contract and enplanements.

Projects are wrapping up as the final walkthrough for the electrical vault will take place next week and the main runway is now operating with LED lighting. With the new lights, Kelly said the airport will save money in the long run.

“I think our initial big savings is not going to be replacing five to 10 bulbs at $30 apiece every week,” he said.

When the old signs were taken out for the LED project, Kelly said about $60,000 worth of parts were acquired which will preserve the main runway.

The airport authority accepted a $12,500 grant from the West Virginia Aeronautics Commission to be used for marketing or safety improvements.

“We used part of ours last year, because of COVID, on our fuel farm repairs,” Kelly said

Negotiations are coming to a close with military fuel contracts which include every military aircraft that comes through the airport.

For the month of August, there were 652 enplanements and 36,922 gallons of fuel sold. Compared to earlier this summer, enplanements are down but Kelly said it’s due to the impacts of COVID.
