Washington County Grand Jury indicts 19

The Washington County Grand Jury met this week to indict 19 true billed defendants on 35 counts.

Brett Eric Shank, 53, 306 Front Street, Apt. B, Marietta, was indicted on one count of failure to comply with an order or signal of a police officer, a third-degree felony, and one count of felonious assault, a first-degree felony.

According to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched Dec. 5 to Lowell regarding subjects in a vehicle yelling and screaming at one another in the Duke and Duchess parking lot.

Lt. Loretta Parks approached the occupants of the vehicle at which time they began to drive away. Parks gave commands to the vehicle to stop and the vehicle continued to abscond, the sheriff’s report stated.

An attempt to catch up to the vehicle on Ohio 60 was unsuccessful as the vehicle began to flee. The vehicle driver ignored the sheriff’s office emergency lights and sirens. The report noted deputies continued to pursue the subject, entering onto Interstate 77, where the Ohio State Highway Patrol assisted with stopping the vehicle.

The vehicle continued on into West Virginia even though a tire and wheel were off of the vehicle, the report stated.

Wood County deputies became engaged in the pursuit and were successful in arresting Shank before taking him into custody.

Shank, who was driving the vehicle, was also observed maneuvering his vehicle towards a deputy sheriff marked cruiser.

The indictment states the felonious assault charge is for attempting to cause harm to Parks with his vehicle.
