PARKERSBURG — The Wood County Sheriff’s Office has identified a man who died Thursday evening following a head-on collision on Staunton Turnpike.

According to a post on the department’s Facebook page, David P. Butcher, no age or address listed, was pronounced dead at the scene after the 2010 Ford Escape he was driving collided with a 1978 Ford Bronco that went left of center in the 1700 block of Staunton Turnpike.

The crash happened around 7:08 p.m. Thursday, the post said.

The Bronco was driven by Ernest Vandal, no age or address listed, the post said. He and passenger Tammy Vandal both sustained injuries and were taken to WVU Medicine Camden Clark.

Staunton Turnpike was closed for about two hours near Leachtown and Hollow Lane roads after the wreck.

The incident remains under investigation by the Wood County Crash Team.
