Washington County Commission approves variety of items

The Washington County Commission approved several additional appropriations Wednesday.

During a meeting Wednesday, commissioners approved an additional appropriation of $114,227 for the engineer motor vehicle grant trust fund for road equipment; $40,000 for maintenance and repair materials-road, $10,000 for maintenance and repair vehicle and equipment, $50,000 for capital road and $300,000 for capital bridge, all for the county engineer fund; $38,227.15 for the capital outlay fund for the Marietta CROSS project; $12,000 for the Community Development Block Grant Reno Volunteer Fire Department fund for community projects; and $47,699 for the sewer fund for road equipment.

The commissioners also approved a transfer for $36,644.18 from advance out to advance in for the Jobs and Family Services fund. This is to pay back part of an advance the Washington County Department of Jobs and Family Services received from the commissioners in September, according to JFS Director Flite Freimann.

Other items addressed at the meeting include:

*Approved paying a total of $618,630.55 in bills.

*Approved establishing two funds for the county Engineer’s Office, the OPWC emergency landship repairs fund to track revenue and expenses for emergency land slip repairs for various county roads to be funded 85% by funds from the Ohio Public Works Commission and OPWC round 37 paving fund to track expenses and revenues for resurfacing of various county roads to be funded 71% by the Ohio Public Works Commission.

*Approved two Then and Now items, which are purchase orders that are more than $100, totaling $4,850.

*Approved three change order requests, $5,000 for Arraya Solutions for an e911 project; $8,582.49 for The Aero-Mark Company for a centerline striping project; one for $11,264 less than the original cost for Bob Lane’s Welding for an emergency landslip repair project for County Road 9.

*Approved a request from Washington County Engineer Roger Wright to purchase a 2024 Chevrolet Silverasdo 1500 crew cab pickup truck for $47,669 for the wastewater department.

*Approved a contract with Commercial Metals Company to perform a bridge replacement for County Road 27 using a modular bridge system at a cost of $259,650. The County Engineer’s original estimate for the project was $245,000 according to a letter from Wright to the commissioners about the contract.

*Approved submitting an application to the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency Water Pollution Control Loan fund for the Washington County pump station upgrade project. The total loan request is $5.2 million and it would have a 20 year term at 2.59% interest with a semi-annual payment of about $47,000, according to a letter from Wright to the commissioners about the loan application.

*Tabled proposed policy changes submitted by Wright for the engineer’s office and the sewer department to provide time for further review.

*Approved a memorandum of understanding between the Washington County Health Department and the County Home for some of the home’s staff to provide public health nursing services for the health department.
