Akron men arrested on drug charges following traffic stop

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office arrested two Akron men on Tuesday on drug charges.

In a release from the department, Daekwan Allen Sanders, 21, 1793 Gaylord Drive, Akron, Ohio, and Richard Lakaile McCallister, 24, 557 Elbon Ave., Akron, Ohio, were both arrested and charged with possession of drugs and trafficking in drugs, both first-degree felonies.

On Tuesday, a detective with the Washington County Sheriff’s Office was sitting along Interstate 77 at the 10-mile marker when a four-door vehicle was observed traveling southbound with dark window tint. The occupants of the vehicle were not able to be seen.

A traffic stop was conducted. Sanders was driving with McCallister in the front passenger seat, the release said.

“…both appeared to be nervous while speaking with (the detective),” the release said.

A consent to search the vehicle was requested and Sanders gave permission.

“…2 bags of Doritos were located in a grocery bag, sealed up,” the release said. “(The detective) opened both bags and located 2 clear baggies of suspected methamphetamine.

“The total weight of those two bags was 1 pound (452 grams) of methamphetamine.”

Sanders and McCallister appeared in Marietta Municipal Court on Wednesday. Sanders was being held on $125,000 bond and McCallister was being held on $150,000 bond, the release said.

Starting at $2.99/week.
