District 18 Ohio Public Works committee meeting
The District 18 Ohio Public Works Fiscal Year 2026 (Round 39) Small Government Committee meeting will be held in person at Buckeye Hills Regional Council at 10 a.m. today. The purpose of this meeting is to select the Round 39 Small Government slate of projects that will be forwarded to the Ohio Public Works Commission to compete for funding with the other 18 districts. This program funds projects such as road, bridge, culvert, water, wastewater, solid waste, and storm water facilities from eligible local government entities in Athens, Belmont, Hocking, Meigs, Monroe, Morgan, Muskingum, Noble, Perry, and Washington counties in southeast Ohio with a population of 5,000 or less. Washington County Behavioral Health Board meeting
The Washington County Behavioral Health Board will hold its next board meeting at 6 p.m. Feb. 27. All interested members of the public are encouraged to attend. Beverly Eagles will hold an All-You-Can-Eat Fish Fry from 5:30-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 31. A meal is $12.00. For carry out, call 740-984-4733. Entertainment will be by Misty Frye Karaoke.
Cabin Fever Buster Dinner
Our Lady of Mercy CWC is taking ticket orders for the Cabin Fever Buster Dinner from 4:30-6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Our Lady of Mercy Social Hall. The cost for adults is $15 and $8 for children under 10. Tickets are on sale now through Monday, January 27. To purchase tickets, contact Kathy at (740) 350-3496. Tickets will not be sold at the door. The meal is eat-in or carry-out. The meal will consist of baked steak, mashed potatoes, gravy, green beans, homemade noodles, coleslaw, dinner rolls, homemade pies, coffee, iced tea, and lemonade.
Community breakfast buffet
Matamoras #374, Free and Accepted Masons, 301 Main St., New Matamoras, is holding a community breakfast buffet from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1. The breakfast includes scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, sausage gravy, hash browns, biscuits, pancakes, cinnamon roll, orange juice, and coffee. The public is invited to attend. Carry out is available. The suggested donation is $7 per person. Profits from the breakfast support Grand Lodge of Ohio Charitable Foundation, the Ohio Masonic Communities, and local charities.
Painting Without Looking art class
The Washington County Public Library will hold a fun art project called Painting Without Looking at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 1, in the library meeting room for kids age 7-12. The class will be led by local reuse and repurpose expert Annie Warmke. Kids will be shown how to create a river themed painting without looking and then create fish from fun items. Artwork will be on display May 10-11 at the Art in the Alley Show on the library lawn. Artwork will be returned to the artist immediately following the closing of the art show. Young Historians Book Club
The Washington County Public Library and The Castle have joined forces to bring an even better “Book Club for Kids”, renamed the “Young Historians Book Club”. All books and associated hands-on activities being utilized in the club will also explore how these books are connected to local people and historical events in the Pioneer City and the Mid-Ohio Valley. The book club will meet in February, April, June, August, and October at the Marietta Branch Library. Attend one, or attend them all. The Young Historians Book Club will meet at 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, and includes activities and discussion based on the book “Danger Along the Ohio” by Patricia Willis. This event is open to ages 9-12. Registration is required by stopping by the Youth Services Department at the Marietta Branch and checking out a copy of the book to read before the event.
Free Throw Contest
The Knights of Columbus will be holding their annual Free Throw Contest at 12 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 8, at St. Mary Catholic School in Marietta. The competition is open to male and females, ages 9-14 (age as of January 1 this year) and every student in the area is welcome to participate. This is a local and district contest, so winners will have the opportunity to compete at the regional level with a chance to advance to the State competition. Pancake and sausage breakfast
Oak Grove Volunteer Fire and EMS will hold a pancake and sausage breakfast from 8-11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at the fire station, 102 Oak Grove Lane, Marietta. Cost is a donation.
Bag and Basket Bingo Fundraiser
Mary’s House will be holding a Bag and Basket Bingo Fundraiser Sunday, Feb. 23, at the St. Bernard Catholic Church Social Hall, 307 Seventh St., Beverly. Doors open at 1 p.m. and the event starts at 2 p.m. 20 games are $20. Tickets will only be sold at the door. A 50/50 drawing, concession stand and raffle will also be available.

13-week GriefShare Program
A 13-week GriefShare Program will be offered at Gilman United Methodist Church, 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta, from 12-1:30 p.m. Feb.13 to May 8, in the Fellowship Hall. At GriefShare, you’ll find a safe, comforting place where you can talk with others about your grief. You’ll find support, direction, and guidance on how to make it through. You will hear insights from grief recovery experts; meet others who understand what you’re going through; learn practical tips for navigating your grief and discover the 6 signs of healing. Zumba Classes
