The Washington County Grand Jury indicted 26 people Wednesday including a Lowell man who was recently arrested in connection with a number of break-ins and thefts in the region, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.

Michael Eldon Jazdzewski, 38, 14990 State Route 60, Lowell, was indicted on 17 counts; kidnapping (first-degree felony), felonious assault (second-degree felony), possessing criminal tools (fifth-degree felony), engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity (second-degree felony), obstructing official business (second-degree misdemeanor), failure to stop after an accident (first-degree misdemeanor), five counts of breaking and entering (fifth-degree felonies), two counts of theft (fifth-degree felonies), two counts of tampering with evidence (third-degree felonies) and two counts of grand theft of a motor vehicle (fourth-degree felonies).

In a January release from the Sheriff’s Office, a break-in was reported at a Christy Road residence in Warren Township, where the homeowner discovered a man loading stolen property into a white Chevrolet truck. When the homeowner attempted to retrieve his belongings, the suspect drove off in reverse, prompting the victim to jump into the truck to avoid being run over. The suspect accelerated and drove through fields to escape, forcing the victim to leap from the moving vehicle. A deputy responding to the call spotted the truck on State Route 676 and pursued it to an intersection, where the vehicle was later found crashed in a field, but the driver had fled.

Additional break-ins were reported in the Christy Road area, along with a stolen Toyota truck from State Route 676. The investigation identified Jazdzewski as a suspect, as his whereabouts matched the times and locations of the crimes. During questioning, he provided conflicting accounts of his movements. On Dec. 19, the stolen Toyota was found hidden in the woods near his residence. Jazdzewski had been recently released from prison after serving a decade for similar property crimes with prior convictions for breaking and entering, theft, assault and other offenses.
