Gallipolis man involved in fatal crash Tuesday morning on Ohio 588
GALLIPOLIS — A Gallipolis man was killed in a single-vehicle traffic accident early Tuesday morning on State Route 588, the Gallipolis Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
Christopher H. Copley, 57, Gallipolis, was driving a 2005 Toyota Scion and failed to negotiate a curve near milepost 11, the patrol said.
His vehicle went off the right side, struck an embankment, overturned and came to rest on its side, the patrol said.
Copley was not wearing a safety belt, the patrol said.
He was pronounced deceased at the scene by the Gallia County Coroner’s Office and taken to the Cremeens Funeral Home, the patrol said.
The accident happened around 1 a.m. Tuesday. Route 588 was closed for about an hour, the patrol said.
The Highway Patrol was assisted by the Gallia County Sheriff’s Office, the Gallipolis Police
Department, Gallia County EMS, Gallipolis Fire Department and Red’s Towing.
The crash remains under investigation, the patrol said.
