Belle Valley Area Historical Preservation Society to hold annual Slavic Sunday Eastern European Feast

BELLE VALLEY, Ohio – The Belle Valley Area Historical Preservation Society will be holding its third annual Slavic Sunday Eastern European feast.

The menu features fried cabbage and noodles with Kielbasa, green beans with smoked pork, and various Eastern European desserts including nut roll, baklava, poppy seed rolls, and various fruit pies.

This dinner is an opportunity to reconnect with ancestors who emigrated to this country in the early 20th century to work in the coal mines and other various jobs necessary to support the growth and development of the region. The Slavic people who emigrated from Central and Eastern Europe formed the foundation of the economy of this part of the country.

This meal will be held at the American Legion Hall in Belle Valley, Ohio. Dinner will be served on Sunday, June 15, starting at 11:30 a.m. and will last until all the food is gone. Tickets are $15 each at the door. There will also be a 50-50 raffle.

The Belle Valley Area Historical Preservation Society is in the process of raising funds and other resources to stabilize, preserve, and develop the former Orthodox Church located in downtown Belle Valley for use as the Slavic Cultural Center for Southeastern Ohio. This facility will serve as a repository for the cultural history of the Slavic people in this region as well as provide space for events bringing attention to the history of this area.

Significant progress has already been made with the Belle Valley Area Historical Preservation Society taking ownership of this property in late 2024.

The building has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places due to its cultural significance within the region. Efforts are underway to begin significant improvements on the structure to create access and develop its capabilities over time.

As an all-volunteer organization, the society is in constant need of support in the form of financial contributions as well as donations of resources including people’ time and talents.
