The Marietta Big Lots appears to have a new lease on life.

A banner outside the store on South Seventh Street Tuesday proclaimed, “The Comeback Starts Soon!” On the front door was a flyer with a QR code that led to an employment website listing job openings for Big Lots locations around the country, including in Marietta.

Lights were on inside the store, and people were working on shelving.

Variety Wholesalers acquired 219 Big Lots stores out of bankruptcy earlier this year. The company announced it was reopening a total of eight stores in April in Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia, according to a release from the company.

In late April, Variety Wholesalers announced 132 stores would reopen this month. That release included 14 Ohio locations, although Marietta is not listed among them.

A request for comment from a Variety Wholesalers spokesman was not returned Tuesday.

No signs or banners similar to those in Marietta were visible Tuesday at the former Big Lots in Vienna.

Both stores closed earlier this year after the company entered Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings in September.

Starting at $2.99/week.
