Body found in Ohio River
PARKERSBURG – A body was recovered from the Ohio River this afternoon, the Wood County Sheriff’s Office reported.
A deckhand on a barge on the Ohio River spotted the body floating in the water around 3:25 p.m. near the Blennerhassett Bridge, according to a post on the office’s Facebook page. The barge captain confirmed the sighting and notified authorities.
Responding agencies included the West Virginia Division of Natural Resources Police; Blennerhassett, Lubeck and Little Hocking volunteer fire departments and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office.
The body was removed from the water after being examined by the Wood County Coroner’s Office. The individual is believed to be male, but identification was hampered by its condition, the post said.
