Meetings

¯ The Washington County Board of Developmental Disabilities will hold a virtual regular meeting at 5:15 p.m. Tuesday. Those wishing to participate are asked to contact Brenda Riffe at briffe@wcbdd.org.

¯ Washington County Relay for Life will hold its first monthly meeting at 5:30 p.m. April 19 at the Marietta VFW picnic area on Pike Street to discuss ideas for the upcoming season. ¯ The Reno Water and Sewer District will hold its regularly scheduled board meeting at 6 p.m. April 20 at the Reno Water office, 170 Mount Tom Road. The public is welcome. Safe distancing will be practiced and masks are requested because of COVID-19.

¯ Grandview Township will hold 2021 regular meetings at 6 p.m. the first Monday of each month at the township hall. The following months will be held on different dates: July 6, and Sept. 13. These meetings will also be held at 6 p.m.

¯ Liberty Township will hold 2021 regular monthly meetings at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month.

¯ Decatur Township will hold its monthly public meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at the township building on Welch Road in Cutler.

Events

¯ The Washington County Historical Society and The Castle historic house museum will present the virtual event Buy Local or By River: Furnishing Early Ohio from 7-8 p.m. Wednesday. Speaker Andrew Richmond will present this free webinar via Zoom. Donations accepted.To register, visit mariettacastle.org/events.

¯ The Tunnel-Warren Chapel United Methodist Churches will provide free community meals from 5-6 p.m. Thursday. The menu will include chicken and noodles, mashed potatoes, green beans, a dinner roll, pie, and bottled water. Meals will be served as drive-through pick-ups in the lower parking lot. To reserve a meal, call Amy at 740-516-0847. Tunnel UMC is located at Ohio 550 and Coffman Road.

¯ The Marietta Earth Day Celebration will sponsor a “Hard to recycle materials” event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday in the People’s Bank parking lot near the Putnam Street bridge. Visit the Facebook page/MariettaEarthDay Celebration to see all that can be recycled; tv (a small cost), electronics, mattresses, scrap metal, and more.

¯ Two hikes on the nature trail behind the Washington County Career Center will take place April 11. One hike will be from 10-11 a.m. and one from 11a.m.-noon. To register, visit Facebook page/MariettaEarthDaycelebration. No more than 10 can be in a group. Wear a mask. Free water bottle for participating.

¯ The Career Center’s Adult Technical Training Center will host the Pathway To A Medical Career event from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. April 30 at the Washington County Career Center campus in Marietta. The event is free to high school students in Ohio and West Virginia. All participants are asked to follow COVID-19 safety protocol. ¯ First Congregational Church United Church of Christ (318 Front St. in Marietta) will continue its weekly free breakfast as take-out from 8:30-10 a.m. each Saturday. All are welcome.

¯ Hervida 4-H Camp Chicken BBQ and Country Store will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. May 1 at Camp Hervida, 958 Stevens Road, Waterford. Meals are available in the mess hall or as pick-up carry-out and include 1/4 or 1/2 chicken, a baked potato, coleslaw, green beans, a roll, dessert, and a beverage. All proceeds benefit camp improvements. Tickets are available at the door and the cost is $10 for 1/2 chicken dinner; $7 for 1/4 chicken dinner.

¯ The Ohio River Sternwheel Festival will host its eleventh annual Ohio River Sternwheel Festival 5K Run and Walk May 29 at East Muskingum Park in Marietta. Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars

¯ The Marietta Family YMCA will host the Spring/Summer 5K Virtual Series between March and May. Events include Hop To It Race, April 10-16, and Stronger Together Run, May 15-21. For more information and registration, visit mariettaymca.org.

¯ The Historic Castle House and Museum will feature Dr. Linda Lockhart, award-winning communication professional, at the Virtual Third Thursday Talk from 7-8 p.m. April 15. Dr. Lockhart’s presentation is titled “Her Life in Letters: Angilique Martin.” This virtual event is free; donations encouraged. Pre-registration required. Miscellaneous

¯ The Castle Historic House Museum plans to reopen for the 2021 season Monday with enhanced safety procedures remaining in place.

¯ The Marietta Area Recycling Center will have extended office hours beginning Tuesday. The center will be open from 8 a.m.-8 p.m. Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. For more information, call 740-373-3372 or visit mariettareycling.org.

¯ The Marietta Earth Day Celebration Trash to Art contest is currently accepting entries. Contestants are asked to use raw materials from the waste basket or recycling bin. The project must be decorative, functional, or artsy. Bring entries to the Marietta Earth Day Celebration Trash to Art Entry Table at Armory Square by 10 a.m. April 24. Winners will be announced at 11:30 a.m. and prizes may be picked up until 1 p.m.
