Meetings

¯ Marietta City Schools will hold its regular April Board of Education meeting at 6 p.m. Monday in the Marietta High School cafeteria, 115 Academy Drive. Attendees are asked to enter from the Colegate Street side of the building. Masks and social distancing will be observed.

¯ The date and location of the regular April meeting of the Fort Frye Board of Education has been changed to 6 p.m. Tuesday at Beverly Center Elementary School, 510 5th Street. A Buildings and Grounds Committee meeting will be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Beverly Center Elementary School.

¯ Area 15 Workforce Development Board Members from Monroe, Morgan, Noble and Washington Counties will hold a meeting from 9-11 a.m. May 3. The Boards of County Commissioners from Monroe, Morgan, Noble, and Washington Counties will hold an Area 15 Council of Governments Meeting at noon. ¯ Grandview Township will hold 2021 regular meetings at 6 p.m. the first Monday of each month at the township hall. The following months will be held on different dates: July 6, and Sept. 13. These meetings will also be held at 6 p.m.

¯ Liberty Township will hold 2021 regular monthly meetings at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month.

¯ Decatur Township will hold its monthly public meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at the township building on Welch Road in Cutler.

Events

¯ GoPacks will host a pandemic-safe version of the GoPacks Top Chef Challenge fundraiser Friday. Each ticket purchased helps fight child hunger and comes with a to-go dinner from the Levee House Bistro, a raffle ticket, Foodie Swag Bag, and more. Tickets can be purchased at GoPacks4kids.org and are $50 per person, $90 a couple.

¯ Beverly American Legion Post 389 at 114 Fifth St. will host a public steak fry from 5-8 p.m. Saturday. The cost is $15 and includes steak, a baked potato, salad and a roll.

¯ First Presbyterian Church in Marietta will host a free, drive-thru only community meal from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Tuesday in the church parking lot at 501 Fourth St. Enter the alley into the parking lot from Wooster Street. Exit the parking lot turning right into the alley and exiting alley onto Washington Street.

¯ Bull’s-Eye 4-H Club will host a Marietta Applebee’s Together We Care Tuesday. The club will receive 50% of what is spent on a special menu of five Applebee’s favorites all day. No flyer or receipt required; ask for and order from the special menu. Fundraiser applies to both dine-in and take-out orders. Proceeds benefit club supplies, equipment, and recognition items for the 4-H Shooting Sports program.

¯ The Career Center’s Adult Technical Training Center will host the Pathway To A Medical Career event from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. April 30 at the Washington County Career Center campus in Marietta. The event is free to high school students in Ohio and West Virginia. All participants are asked to follow COVID-19 safety protocol. ¯ The Gilman United Methodist Church Chicken Pie Supper will be held from 4:30-6 p.m. April 30 (carry-out or curb-side only). Meals cost $8 each and include mashed potatoes, green beans, coleslaw, a roll and dessert. The church is located at 312 Gilman Ave., Marietta. Proceeds benefit the United Methodist Women’s Mission programs.

¯ The work of Marietta native, Sala Bosworth, will be on exhibit at The Dawes Arboretum from noon-3 p.m. May 1-Oct. 31. Ohio Artist Sala Bosworth: The Dawes Family Collection and The Lyman Whitaker Wind Sculpture Exhibition are included with general admission to The Dawes Arboretum. ¯ Oak Grove Volunteer Fire Dept. will hold a pancake breakfast and a meet-and-greet new EMTs from 7-11 a.m. May 1 at the fire station at 102 Oak Grove Lane.

¯ Oak Grove Recreation Center will hold its annual plant sale from 8 a.m.-noon May 1 in the school parking lot at 535 B.F. Goodrich Road.

¯ Hervida 4-H Camp Chicken BBQ and Country Store will be held from 4:30-7 p.m. May 1 at Camp Hervida, 958 Stevens Road, Waterford. Meals are available in the mess hall or as pick-up carry-out and include 1/4 or 1/2 chicken, a baked potato, coleslaw, green beans, a roll, dessert, and a beverage. All proceeds benefit camp improvements. Tickets are available at the door and the cost is $10 for 1/2 chicken dinner; $7 for 1/4 chicken dinner. ¯ The 2021 Ohio Valley Education Job Fair will be held from 8 a.m.-1 p.m. May 7 at Marietta High School. Fourteen different local school districts and vocational schools will be interviewing candidates for almost 100 different positions. Schools are seeking teachers, substitutes, bus drivers, paraprofessionals, speech language pathologists, and reading specialists. Candidates may register at OVESC.org.

¯ A Spring Plant and Bake Sale from 7:30 a.m.-3 p.m. May 8 at Marietta Memorial Hospital, Matthew & Ferguson Street, underneath the walkway. The sale will include a variety of vegetable plants, flowers, spikes, hanging baskets and goodies at the bake sale. Sponsored by Friends of Selby volunteers. Proceeds benefit Teddy Bear fund.

¯ The Fearing Vol. Fire Dept. will hold its annual Mother’s Day dinner May 9. The menu includes baked steak and chicken with mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans and dessert. Coffee and tea included. The cost is $8 for adults and $4 for children. Dine-In or carry-out only. Attendees are asked to respect social distancing.

¯ The Castle will hold the cemetery tour “Align on the Colors! Stories of the Civil War” at 10 a.m. and noon May 15. Tour begins at Oak Grove Cemetery at Eighth and Washington, Marietta. The cost is $10. For more information, visit mariettacastle.org.

¯ A rabies shot clinic for dogs and cats will be held from 1-2:30 p.m. May 15 at the Washington County Health Dept., 342 Muskingum Drive, Marietta. The cost is $10 per animal. Dogs must be on a leash and cats must be in carriers. All animals must be at least 12 weeks old. Social distancing and masks required.

¯ The Ohio River Sternwheel Festival will host its eleventh annual Ohio River Sternwheel Festival 5K Run and Walk May 29 at East Muskingum Park in Marietta. ¯ First Congregational Church United Church of Christ (318 Front St. in Marietta) will continue its weekly free breakfast as take-out from 8:30-10 a.m. each Saturday. All are welcome.

Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars

¯ MOVCA and the Green Sanctuary Committee of the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta will co-sponsor a screening of the documentary “Kiss the Ground” at 7:30 p.m. Sunday in the church courtyard, 232 Third Street. ¯ The Marietta Family YMCA will host the Spring/Summer 5K Virtual Series between March and May. The final event, Stronger Together Run, will be held May 15-21. For more information and registration, visit mariettaymca.org.

Miscellaneous

¯ The Marietta Earth Day Celebration Trash to Art contest is currently accepting entries. Contestants are asked to use raw materials from the waste basket or recycling bin. The project must be decorative, functional, or artsy. Bring entries to the Marietta Earth Day Celebration Trash to Art Entry Table at Armory Square by 10 a.m. Saturday. Winners will be announced at 11:30 a.m. and prizes may be picked up until 1 p.m.

¯ Barlow Township has scheduled cleanup days for township residents April 29, April 30 and May 1. Accepted items include unwanted trash, doors and windows, bicycles and toys, scrap lumber, furniture and carpet. Tires, paint, or hazardous chemicals are not accepted.
