Meetings

¯ Marietta City Schools will hold a special board meeting at 10:30 a.m. today at 111 Academy Drive in the boardroom. This meeting is to discuss and award the project work for secure entrance at Marietta Middle School.

¯ The Washington State Community College Board of Trustees will hold its monthly meeting at 4 p.m. today in the Community Room of the Main Building.

¯ Reno Water and Sewer District will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday in Reno Water Office Building, 170 Mount Tom Road. Public is welcome. Safe distancing will be practiced and masks are optional due to COVID mandates.

¯ The Washington County Family & Children First Council Meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Washington County E.O.C. office, 204 Davis Avenue, Suite C. For more information, call 740-376-7081.

¯ The Washington county Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society will meet at 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Washington County Public Library lower-level meeting room. The speaker will be Deb Root Shell presenting the “Civil War Rolls of Honor Part Two.” She will have copies of her new book for sale with proceeds benefiting the Root Bridge Maintenance Fund.

¯ The Village of Lowell will hold a BOPA meeting at 6 p.m. June 21, and a council meeting will be held at 7 p.m. June 22.

¯ Palmer Township will hold its July 2021 meeting at 7:30 p.m. July 8.

¯ Grandview Township will hold 2021 regular meetings at 6 p.m. the first Monday of each month at the township hall. The following months will be held on different dates: July 6 and Sept. 13. These meetings will also be held at 6 p.m.

¯ The Marietta High School Class of 1955 has resumed luncheon meetings at 11:30 a.m. the second Monday of each month at the Harmar Tavern, 205 Maple St. All classmates and friends welcome.

¯ Liberty Township will hold 2021 regular monthly meetings at 7 p.m. the second Monday of each month.

¯ Decatur Township will hold its monthly public meetings on the second Tuesday of each month at the township building on Welch Road in Cutler.

¯ Ludlow Township will hold regular monthly meetings the last day of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the town hall.

Events

¯ Little Muskingum Grange will hold its first catfish tournament Friday. Registration begins at 7 p.m. Friday at Bob’s Place, 110 Front Street, New Matamoras. Buy-in is $25. Tournament is for single participants with a valid fishing permit. No children permitted without an adult. Heaviest fish wins.

¯ Marietta Friends of the Library will host a used book sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday outdoors at the library annex, 615 Fifth St., Marietta. Everything will be priced at three items for $1. Rain date will be June 26 with the same hours.

¯ The Little Muskingum Volunteer Fire Department will hold its annual Ice Cream Social Saturday at Lawrence Elementary School, 14800 SR 26. Serving begins at 4 p.m. The event will include live music, bingo, a silent auction (with drawings throughout the night; first drawing at 5 p.m.), games and more.

¯ The 47th Annual Sarahsville Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday at the Noble County Community Center. Doors open at 5 p.m. and social hour begins at 5:30. Baked steak dinners will be served at 6:30 p.m. by Patty’s Place. The cost is $17 per dinner and $4 dues per alumni. Masks are required when not seated. Tickets for prizes sold at the door. ¯ The Ohio Valley Opry’s first show of the season will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday featuring bluegrass band Midnight Storm, country music singers Gary Swartz, Mike Morrison, Matt Coleman, and The Clark Family. ¯ The Father’s Day STAG Fish Fry (open to gentlemen of the public and KofC Members) will be held June 20 at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Churchtown, Ohio (17472 SR 676). Serving food noon to 3 p.m. The cost is $10 for all-you-can-eat fish (perch and cod), french fries, coleslaw, and drinks. ¯ St. Bernard’s Catholic Church Parish will hold a chicken or ham dinner from 4 to 7 p.m. June 23 at the church located on 7th Street in Beverly. The meal includes mashed potatoes, gravy, dressing, noodles, green beans, a dinner roll, dessert and a beverage. The cost of an adult meal is $10 and meals for children ages 10 and under are $5. ¯ WSCC will host the free Degrees 2 Dollars open house from 5-7 p.m. June 29 in the WSCC Commons in the Main Building at 710 Colegate Drive. Talk with WSCC faculty, staff, and community employment organizations to learn about career prospects, degree and certificate programs, how to pay for college, and more. ¯ The 40th Wendell and Catherine Offenberger Reunion will be held at noon Aug. 15 at Our Lady of Mercy Social Hall in Lowell. ¯ First Congregational Church United Church of Christ (318 Front St. in Marietta) will continue its weekly free breakfast as take-out from 8:30 to 10 a.m. each Saturday. All are welcome.

Classes/Workshops/Programs/Seminars

¯ The O’Neill Center in Marietta will host Bingo at 9:30 a.m. Thursday mornings. Doors will not open before 9:15 a.m. The cost is $10 at the door to play 19 games. Seating is limited; those interested in attending must call 740-373-3914.

¯ The Castle will host the free virtual Third Thursday Talk, “Front Page News, a Journey Through Time” by Art Smith, from 7 to 8 p.m. June 17 via Zoom. Art will discuss stories that made the front pages and how the newspaper itself has evolved over the last 150 years. Donations encouraged.

¯ The Castle will present Cemetery Tours: Patriots Tour at 10 a.m. and noon July 3 beginning at Mound Cemetery, Fifth and Scammel Streets in Marietta. Commemorate the 245th Independence Day with a tour through Marietta’s most historic cemetery. For more information, visit bit.ly/3cCvmJ7.

¯ The Castle’s Virtual History Camp: Reconstructing America 1880-1900 will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. July 5 through Zoom. The camp is designed for third through sixth grade students but is open to those age 18 and younger. Registration for individual sessions or the full week is available. ¯ The Castle will present Cemetery Tours: The Sickly Seasons 1822-1823 at 10 a.m. and noon July 24 beginning at Mound Cemetery, Fifth and Scammel Streets in Marietta. ¯ The Castle will host an interactive tour of Oak Grove Cemetery beginning at 10 a.m. Sept. 4 at Eighth and Washington Streets in Marietta. Learn about the interesting men and women buried there from living history interpreters. For tickets and more information, visit bit.ly/2Srpxrb.

¯ The Castle will present Cemetery Tours: Bringing Forth Those Pioneers at 10 a.m. and noon Oct. 23 beginning at Mound Cemetery, Fifth and Scammel Streets in Marietta. Follow the “Long Blue Line” from the foundation of Marietta College with stories of a few of the people who built it into one of the top institutions it is today. Miscellaneous

¯ The Marietta Area Recycling Center (MARC) will return to its regular schedule of 24 hours per day 7 days a week beginning Monday. MARC accepts cardboard, paper, bottle glass, steel and aluminum cans and #1, 2, 4 and 5 plastic. Materials need to be sorted into designated containers. To volunteer, call Kathy Ortt at 740-373-3372.
