Meetings

¯ The Washington County Family & Children First Council Meeting will be held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Washington County E.O.C. office, 204 Davis Avenue, Suite C. For more information, call 740-376-7081.

¯ Reno Area Water and Sewer District will hold its regularly scheduled meeting at 6 p.m. Sept. 21 in the Reno Water Office Building, 170 Mount Tom Road. Public is welcome. Safe distancing and masks are requested because of COVID.

¯ The SouthEastern Ohio Joint Solid Waste Management District Policy Committee meeting will be held at noon Sept. 22 at the Lori’s Family Restaurant, 17020 McConnelsville Road, Caldwell.

¯ Decatur Township will hold its monthly public meetings today at the township building on Welch Road in Cutler.

¯ Ludlow Township will hold regular monthly meetings the last day of each month at 7:30 p.m. at the town hall.

¯ Those interested in helping with this year’s Christmas Day Feast are encouraged to call Project Manager Bruce Edward Haas at 740-629-1277 for information on how to volunteer. Volunteers are needed to help with donations, food prep, setting up, cleaning up afterward, bussing tables, delivering meals and more.

¯ A special public forum to discuss current issues in local schools will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday in the Marietta High School cafeteria for Marietta City taxpayers, concerned citizens and alumni. Attendees are asked to arrive early. Cell camera use is permitted.

¯ The Children’s Toy and Doll Museum will sponsor a Doll, Bear and Toy Show and Sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Baymont Inn Marietta, 701 Pike Street. Admission is $5 for adults and free for children 12 and under. The event will also include door prizes.

¯ The Campus Martius Museum will host An Insider’s Tour at 1:30 p.m. Saturday. The tour will offer an inside look at the stories of early settlers narrated by historian William Reynolds. ¯ Lowell American Legion will host a steak fry Saturday. Meals include steak cooked to order, chicken or baked steak, or no meat. All meals come with salad, a baked potato and a roll. Eat in or carry out. Phone orders begin at 4:30 p.m. and serving will be from 5-8 p.m. To order, call 740-896-3326.

¯ The Salem-Liberty Alumni Banquet will be held Saturday at the school. Dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m. and the cost is $15 each. ¯ Candidates for the Marietta City School Board of Education will take part in a panel discussion from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday in the Graham Auditorium at Washington State Community College, 710 Colegate Drive. Doors open at 6 p.m. Seating is limited and will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Masks will be required by all attendees.

¯ The 47th annual Sewing Smorgasbord will be held from 9:15 a.m. to 3:05 p.m. Sept. 25 at Sheridan Middle School, Thornville, Ohio. The event will include over 30 classes and 15 exhibitors. The cost is $10 per person; no pre-registration required. For more information, visit perry.osu.edu.

¯ Artist Micaela de Vivero’s work “Oro No Es/ Gold is it Not?” will be on display through Sept. 30 in Gallery 310 and the Atrium Gallery at Marietta College’s Herman Fine Arts Center. Hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursdays, or by appointment. Marietta College holidays and breaks are observed.

¯ Marietta is the featured subject of Riverside Art Gallery at 219 Second Street for the month of October. Opening day is Oct. 1 with special extended hours from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. The gallery will feature Marietta artist Michael Dickinson, as well as Kate McCarthy, Robert Morris, Bruce Wonderlich and Ken Terry.

¯ Lowell Octoberfest will be held Oct. 2-3 at Buell Island Park. The event will include live entertainment, handicap parking, children’s games, German food and a beer garden. Free parking and admission.

¯ A benefit dinner for Laura Glover will be held from 1-6 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Cutler Community Center at CCC. The chicken and dressing dinner will also be available for take out. There will be a beef raffle (1/4 local beef) and gun raffles for a Springfield Hell Cat 9mm and a Diamondback firearm AR 5.56. There will also be live music, a pie raffle and a silent auction. ¯ Tickets are on sale now for the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley’s 17th FUR BALL, to be held from 7 p.m. to midnight Oct. 23 at the Elizabeth Sugden Broughton Community Building, Ohio 821, Marietta. Tickets are $45 per person or $400 for a table for eight. The barbecue dinner will be catered by Joe Momma’s Kitchen, with music by The Bash. There will also be a country store and silent auction. Tickets can be purchased at hsov.org or by calling 304-481-6340 or 740-525-2860.

¯ First Congregational Church United Church of Christ (318 Front St. in Marietta) will continue its weekly free breakfast as take-out from 8:30-10 a.m. each Saturday. All are welcome.
