Frontier, Pleasants schools among weather-related closings
PARKERSBURG — Ongoing rain, rising rivers and potential mudslides have led three area school districts to call off classes and two weekend events to be canceled.
Frontier High School dismissed at noon, while New Matamoras and Newport elementaries will dismiss at 12:30 p.m., due to flooding, the district’s Facebook page says. Classes at Frontier schools have also been canceled for Tuesday.
Pleasants County Schools will close at 1 p.m. today, while Wetzel County Schools are also closing two hours early.
The Riverfest and Paddlefest events slated for this weekend at Point Park in Parkersburg have also been canceled, with organizers citing both current conditions and the forecast impact of Hurricane Florence.
