Rite Aid robbery suspect in custody
From staff reports
The suspect in the armed robbery of a Marietta Rite Aid earlier this month is in custody, Marietta Police announced on Thursday.
The suspect’s name has not yet been released, as he has not yet been charged with the Marietta crime, said Capt. Aaron Nedeff.
The man was arrested Dec. 7 by federal authorities in northern Ohio, according to a release from the Marietta Police Department. The suspect is believed to have been involved in a multi-state pharmacy robbery ring and to have taken part in similar crimes both before and after the Dec. 2 robbery in Marietta.
Around 6 p.m. that evening, the man went to the back of the Rite Aid store, pulled out a gun and demanded that the pharmacist open the safe, according to police.
When pharmacist Glenn Norosky told the suspect there wasn’t a safe back there, the man jumped across the counter and pistol whipped Norosky, who had to be hospitalized. The suspect then went to the front of the store and demanded money from the cashier, leaving with the cash. He was believed to have been driven to the store by another person seen in the car with him.
Police had said they believed the suspect had also cased the Vienna Rite Aid store that evening before committing the robbery in Marietta.
Earlier this week, the Rite Aid corporation offered a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the suspect.
