Storybook Park will be held at armory

The Kiwanis Club of Marietta’s Storybook Park will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. June 1. The event will be held in front of The Armory on Front Street. A variety of books will be read to children with the goal of encouraging reading. Children will get a sticker when they visit each story; if they receive three stickers, they get a book and a chance to win a prize.

Newport alumni banquet is planned

The 129th Newport High School Alumni Banquet will be held June 1 in memory of Hank Morus. Social hour begins at 5:30 p.m. and dinner at 6:30 p.m. at Newport Elementary School. The cost is $20 per dinner. Guests are asked to confirm reservations by May 29 to Ron Thomas, 70 Harris St., Newport, OH.

Celebrity Golf tourney will be held June 8

The Marietta Fraternal Order of Police will host its 17th annual Celebrity Golf Tournament June 8 at 8 a.m. Celebrities consist of former Cleveland Browns and Ohio State Buckeye players. Cost to join the tournament is $500 for a four-person team, or $125 per individual. Individual players will be paired with three others to make a team, including one celebrity. Free Memorial Day picnic in Whipple

Chapter 52 of the Disabled American Veterans will host a free Memorial Day picnic at 1 p.m. May 27 located at 835 DAV Road, just north of Exit 6 on Interstate 77 in Whipple. The event will feature food, games and a variety of live music played by Tom Roddey, Roger Kimberly and Bruce Haas. No alcohol will be present.

4-H annual 5K Run/ Walk will be June 1

The Oak Grove Explorers 4-H Club will host the ninth annual 5K Run/Walk for Hervida June 1 at 8 a.m., starting at Oak Grove Christian School, 535 BF Goodrich Road, Marietta. Registration is $15. Registration forms are available via facebook.com/5krunwalkhervida/. Day-of registration is from 7 to 7:45 a.m. Proceeds from the event benefit Hervida 4-H Camp.
