Bow hunter’s permit test will be given

The test to obtain a City of Marietta bow hunter’s permit will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 7 at Buckeye Park. A bow with practice tips is required to take the test.

WCCC will spotlight industrial mechanics

The Washington County Career Center’s Adult Technical Training Center will conduct a special event showcasing the industrial maintenance mechanic career field from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 20. This event is open to the public and will offer tours of the industrial training labs, an opportunity to learn about local jobs and potential internships and instructors will be on hand to speak about training. The training center is located on Ohio 676 in Marietta.

Drug free program by Main Street West

The Harmar group Main Street West will present the Drug Prevention Program, “Let’s Talk About Drugs: Keeping our youth drug free” at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 28 at Gilman United Methodist Church in the fellowship hall. The program is free and open to the public, but is geared toward youth entering the sixth grade and older. Gilman UMC is located at 312 Gilman Ave. in Marietta.

Writers’ retreat will be held at Stockport Mill

A writers’ retreat will take place at the Stockport Mill from 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sept. 14. Morning workshop sessions will be led by local writers Karen Nelson (“Poetry as Memoir”), Lois Spencer (“Nothing Happens in a Vacuum”) and Kenna Hambel (“Writing a Travelogue”). Lunch will be at the mill, followed by an afternoon of writing and sharing. A $10 fee will benefit Morgan County Community of the Arts (sponsor) and lunch will range from $13-$15 plus tax and gratuity. Castle program on local art history

The Castle Museum will present a program on local art history at 7:30 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Basilica social hall (downstairs), 506 Fourth St., Marietta. (This is a change from the original 7 p.m. time at The Castle). This Third Thursday Talk is entitled “Local Artists: New Discoveries” and will present new research findings by Wes Clarke of The Castle staff.
