Documents for school consolidations have been posted online
PARKERSBURG – Information packets for three Wood County schools being considered for closure and consolidation are now available online.
Wood County Schools posted PDFs for McKinley, Waverly and Worthington elementary schools this week. The documents range from about 160-220 pages each, and are available at woodcountyschoolswv.com.
Each document contains information on a school’s enrollment, facilities, costs, personnel, transportation and educational programs.
“If the board approves (consolidation), these documents will be submitted to the state,” said Superintendent Will Hosaflook.
State code also requires physical copies of the reports for public review.
“There is a copy at the board office, and there is a copy given to each principal and each LSIC president,” Hosaflook said. In the previous weeks, board members and administrators met with Local School Improvement Council and Parent-Teacher Association representatives at the three elementary schools, and Hosaflook said the physical copies of the report were distributed Wednesday.
Additional copies also are made available to those schools which would receive students due to consolidation or merger, he said.
“We’ve tried to make it very easy to find information,” Hosaflook said.
The documents also set the dates for hearings at the three schools and four affected schools. The dates are the same as were announced July 31. The dates, times and locations are:
Sept. 30: Waverly Elementary, 5 p.m., at the school.
Oct. 1: Williamstown High/Middle School, 5 p.m.; Williamstown Elementary School, 7:30 p.m. Both hearings would be held at the high school.
Oct. 2: Worthington Elementary School, 5 p.m.; Emerson Elementary School, 7:30 p.m., each at their respective schools.
Oct. 3: McKinley Elementary, 5 p.m.; Jefferson Elementary Center, 7:30 p.m., each at their respective schools.
Hosaflook said questions about the consolidation documents can be directed to the district’s central office or the affected school.
