The Washington County Board of Elections will be closed January 15-17 to allow the board and staff to attend the 2020 OAEO Winter Conference. The office will also be closed Jan. 20 in observance of Martin Luther King Day. The office will re-open at 8 a.m. on Jan. 21.

The Marietta Natural History Society presents “Better than You Thought: The Ohio River and Efforts to Save It” at 7 p.m. Thursday in room 150 of the Rickey Science Center on the Marietta College campus. Ranger Michael Schramm of the Ohio River Islands National Wildlife Refuge will tell the story of how this landscape developed and the evolving human uses, from historic times through the present, shape the challenges faced by those hoping to restore and conserve the region’s natural wonders. The next MNHS presentation will be on Feb. 20 at 7 p.m. Marty Seufer will discuss Williamstown’s designation as a Bee City.

Hidden Marietta will present a Paranormal Exposition featuring Dalen Spratt, star of the hit show “Ghost Brothers,” Jan. 25 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the ballroom of the Lafayette Hotel. Admission is $12 in advance, and $15 at the door.

The First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta will host an African Drum Workshop Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Social Hall. Master Drummer Lawrence Greene will conduct the workshop.
